Ok so code 174G for an amount of £12.

I would bet my hat on that being a late payment or overlimit charge. What does code 174G say on the the code list you have received (I am sure you said you finally got a list of the codes?)

I did finally get the list of codes, but would you believe that the code for charge was not on it.

the woman did eventually give me it over the phone when I had my wee mental moment

and stupidly called her and the charge code is 174G

but I found it very convenient that it wasn't on the list of codes.

They are just giving me the run around really,

doing anything they can to slow me down in the hope I will give up.

According to her its either a late payment or a charge for sending a letter,

they apparently do not charge for being over limit and since I don't have any description of what I am being charged for

I don't know if that's right or not but

I have never heard of a company not charging for being over limit,

although in this case my being over limit was their fault,

not mine as they reduced my limit to less than my balance was at the time.

Ok so on the transaction lists you received you have dates and you have notes of the £12 charges whether they be for a letter or for being late.

That is the basis for your spreadsheet calculations.

Is code 111G interest?

It would be the basis for my spreadsheet but the totals don't match,

I know from the statement of account that there is £180 of charges

but there aren't that many in what I got in response to my sar.

I am just getting it out now with my highlighter again to make absolutely sure I haven't missed any.

Code 111G is 'insurance charge'

I am awaiting to hear back from them about the insurance because I certainly never asked for it,

I never take insurance for anything

the person I have been dealing with had to pass that part on to a different department

the only thing I see on the list that is interest is '197k interest charge (LX direct only)'

I don't know what LX direct is.

Edited to add: My total that I worked out using what they sent me was £156

Insurance charge? So we could be in for a PPI type reclaim as well.

Was there anything in the SAR which indicates the percentage rate of interest they were charging you?

Concentrate on the charges claim for the time being as that is proving difficult enough let alone getting an insurance claim in at the same time.

I would prepare a spreadsheet with the charges you can confirm and evidence and see what the total reclaim would be.

You may not need to include all of them in order to wipe the debt.

The ppi type stuff is being claimed separately anyway - well its been passed to a different department to be dealt with,

I haven't heard back from it yet but

I am concentrating on the charges.

I have been through the sar stuff again and

there is definitely only £156 worth of charges

there even although I know that there was £180 from the statement of account.

There is nothing that I can see that says anything about interest but it could be another code I don't have I guess,

can I do a spreadsheet without the interest and the missing charges?

OK I would prepare a spreadsheet and list all of the charges that you can evidence from the transaction history.

The spreadsheet to use is the second one here

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?330996-Latest-Spreadsheets-PPI-Claims-and-Charges-Claims-Dec-2011

Set the interest rate to zero for time being and get the charges input into the sheet first. We can re-visit interest when you have done that.

I have filled in all the charges I have proof of, but the totals don't match? I have checked three times with a calculator and the total is £156 but the spreadsheet says £168, have I done something wrong?

you have a charge of £12 listed AFTER 06/03/2010 on the spreadsheet

so when did it stop?

change the claim to date to that

but then you need to use the statint sheet to calc the 8%

They sold it pretty quickly, some time in 2010. I will get the stuff out after lunch and get the exact date, I am sure its on one of the black sheets I got from the sar failing that it will be pretty much immediately after the last charge, but I will look for the date.

Ok I have gone through it all again and I definitely cant find anything to say what the interest rate was, but it was sold to capquest on 16/04/10 from what I can see. What do I do if I don't know the interest rate?

Is classed as "Administration Charge" on the cheat sheet they included with my SAR request

kirstyo is spot on with the "hard to decipher" bit it's almost avoidance by obfuscation... and some of the codes they use are helpfully not included in the sheet they send out I have just gone through mine and included anything with a separate date and a charge of exactly £12

Good luck kirstyo!

PS: APR on mine is 44.9% but that was after August 2012

I just looked for anything that was £12,

all the codes were the same for all the ones I found as it happens

but it wouldn't surprise me if yours was different,

there are also definitely some missing on mine because the total charges I found was different to the total amount of charges on my statement of account.

I have done my spreadsheet but have no idea what to do next,

have probably left it too long now but I just don't know what to do.

I am considering just paying it and getting it out of my life,

wish I had done that in the first place

then I could have fought for the money back rather than sitting in this stalemate with capquest and littlewoods for over a year.
