Whats the average length off time the banks give you, to do a charge back.

Im guessing will all be different but i would just like to know some average lengths

So if you are with any banks and you know the length please share.

Ive heard anything from a few months for debit cards upto like a year for credit cards.

thanks.

I believe it's 6 years by law. The companies can ask for a payment on a transaction for 6 years and I think it is the same back.

Think identity fraud here...

We could do with some help from you.

Chargeback time limit information .....

Time limit There is a time limit on chargeback claims - typically 120 days - which starts from the day you become aware of a problem. There is also an overall cut off point of 540 days for Visa chargeback. Therefore, your deadline for requesting a chargeback is 120 days from discovering you have a problem, or 540 days from the transaction date, whichever comes first.

Ha :) Thanks

I think my logic was that for upto 6 years after a transaction is done they can request payment (IE buy a train ticket on in November 2012 & they can request payment at any point over the 6 years)
