Hi I'm new to this, the query concerns a car bought from Carshop, Cardiff. The car in question is a Renault Megane and a heap of cr*p but apart from being vastly overpriced, the car's not the issue.

The agreement was £8000 for the car, £2000 for insurance making a total of £10000. The loan is in my mother's name although the car is my daughter's. My Mum died at the beginning of February without leaving a will. My daughter is convinced the agreement was a loan, not car finance so we're hoping above hope that this insurance pays off the balance of the loan. This is what my mother was lead to believe, given her age at the time the loan was taken out.

Not having the documents in front of me, I can't read through the small print so I'm hoping that anyone else who's had a similar loan with insurance from Black Horse would be able to let me know if, indeed, it will repay the loan otherwise my daughter stands to lose her car

Also, I think I read elsewhere on this site that if it's a personal loan and doesn't mention the car in the wording then the car can be sold on...I'm hoping this is the case as my daughter wants shot of it asap. Thanks in advance

I think both you and those who might be able to help, will be better waiting on you having the documents in your possession. I would have thought if there was insurance on the loan then it would be repaid on production of a Death Certificate.

I will alert those who might know for you.

Difficult for people to say if they have a similar loan when you can't say yourself exactly what it is,

Do you have access to it yet. Ideally might be best if you can post it up so we can see it.

I'm concerned if the insurance will pay up and if it was really suitable for your mother. Was it ppi?

I can't get my hands on the paperwork, my brother's got it as he's dealing with probate.

Basically, if this insurance doesn't pay off the balance in the event of my mother's death as she was lead to believe, then she was mis-sold a PPI and we'll be claiming it back. I've spoken to my daughter since posting and she is adamant it was a personal loan, not car finance and nowhere is the car mentioned, so it's my understanding she can sell the car.

Thanks for all your replies, I know the information I've provided is a bit vague but when you're dealing with rubbish like this after a bereavement you don't tend to think straight 'til you've calmed down!
