Hiya guys hoping for a bit of help/advice regarding my Beko dryer, will start from the beginning.

Bought January 2012

October 2012- Dryer stops heating up, engineer comes out under one year guarantee and replaces the heating element as it is broken

Now - Dryer showing same signs as previously, not heating up so OH just went into the back and the heating element has gone AGAIN.

My question is firstly obviously the 1 year has ran out so is there any point in contacting Beko?

Secondly does the part the Beko engineer fitted not also come under the 1 year?, because if it does the part is not get 1 year old.

I could just go buy the part (which I no doubt am sure I will have to do) which I have found online for £35.00, but I really dont think I should have to surely the dryer should last longer than 15 months with a price tag of £240.

I have no idea about my rights ect and am not having much look googling online either so just thought I would see if anyone on here has any advice before I have to open my purse

Hi Welcome, your dryer replaced element should have a 1 year guarantee so you are OK,but much more important is SOGA " the sale of goods act".Google this and have a good read, you will find a much used phrase Fit For Purpose and your Beko is not,Do no try to repair yourself,go back to the retailer as it is his responsibility.

Got in touch with beko this morning apparently any new parts supplied and fitted only carry a 3 month guarantee and that there is nothing they can do to help.

I contacted littlewoods the company I purchased the dryer from and have just quoted the sales of goods act, doubt I will get very far with them though as I have had problems in the past, any more ideas on what I should do.

Thanks

Do not let Littlewoods of the hook. The Beko Dryer under the Sale of Goods Act is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE,insist on a repair/replacement of the element free of charge,if they cannot provide this within 7 days, then insist on a refund.

Trading Standards now looks after the SOGA,phone and write TS as well to record your displeasure with Littlewoods

Do not give in and do not try to repair yourself as this will make SOGA void

Google "SOGA TEMPLATE LETTER" it will produce a BBC,Which and Citizens Advice template letter,

Take your pick they all say the same thing just different format

YOU WILL WIN just follow it through,be tough and do not let Littlewoods tell you to contact BEKO,it is Littlewoods responsibility

  • 8 months later...

Just to update.

Decided not to persue littlewoods and bought the part myself from the internet,

3 months in the part broke again.

I sent it back to the company I bought it from and upon receiving it back they refunded my money with an email stating they were not willing to send me a new part as,

the part is faulty but they believe it to be caused from something going onto the heating element amd comprimising it, whatever that means.

bought a part from somewhere else and are still working about 2 months in although I am not holding my breath.

I know I should have fought harder with littlewoods but they are such a big company and they are sp good at making you believe that they cannot help.

Your contract was with Littlewoods and you should have bitten their backsides to get things sorted. If it is a latent fault (appears to be the case) then you can chase the manufacturer but that would be after you have exhausted the limits of their liability under SoGA and you are nowhere near that time yet. White goods are supposed to last 5-6 years so get back onto Littlewoods. Dont talk to them on the phone, write to them and give them a set time to respond such as 14 days otherwise you will take action necessary to gain proper restitution.

Hi Mrs Salvator,

A few points :-

Whilst I'm sure your OH is adequately qualified or experienced, nobody should open up the back of a dryer unless they are fully competent and really know what they're doing. Firstly, there's obvious electrical dangers. Secondly, it is as likely to be one of the two thermostats that fails rather than the heater element. In this case, you could buy and fit a new heater element but it would still not work due to the faulty stat.

If anyone other than a suitably qualified engineer opens the appliance to investigate the cause of the failure, this is likely to breach the warranty and render it void.

I wonder if the appliance is overheating due to your failure to properly clean the filter(s) before every use, or as recommended by Beko. It's very common for folk to not bother cleaning the filters before every use, or to not clean them properly.

You should have insisted Littlewoods took care of the problem and you could probably have achieved this easily. By carrying out the element replacements yourself or by not using original parts, your warranty may now be void. Hence, if the problems persist, you have no recourse with Littlewoods.

:-)

We could do with some help from you
