Thought I'd posted this earlier but can't find it, so apologies if I've done it twice! In December 2006 I took out a £10,000 loan with Natwest - on their advice - to pay off my credit card. I recently asked Natwest for the CCA on the loan, which they were unable to provide, but they sent me bank statements. The statement for December 2006 shows a credit of £15,000, not £10,000 going into my account. I did not have physical access to this money, Natwest arranged everything so that it went in and straight out again to pay off the balance of the credit card, which was £9,500.I mentioned this to the financial ombudsman when they were looking into another Natwest complaint for me, and they have confirmed that the loan was definitely for £10,000, but they don't seem to understand what I'm getting at - namely that 5 grand has gone astray somewhere.Has anyone had this happen to them or have any ideas what my next step should be?

Hold up. You asked for a CCA. They couldnt provide the CCA. I wouldnt worry too much, they cant enforce it through court until they find the original CCA. They can chase you up though and mark your credit record.

Regarding the extra money, maybe a SAR request is the next best thing to do now, so you can see exactly what has happened.

Be quick though as some creditors rarely hold documents for more than 6 years. In the SAR request, amke sure you specifically state the period for which you need the info. Even if they dont have the info any more, that can work in your favour too as they cannot provide proof.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

Thanks for the advice everyone.

The only thing that worries me about the CCA is that in 2008 - again on Natwest's advice - I took out a second loan to pay off the first. So technically the 2006 loan has been paid!

I've done a SAR and have loads of paperwork to wade through!
