Former Labour minister Denis MacShane is facing suspension from the Commons for 12 months. A Parliamentary committee found he had submitted 19 false invoices which were "plainly intended to deceive" Parliament's expenses authority.

What would happen to someone on benefits that submitted 19 false claims, apart from being splashed over the front page of the Daily Mail as a thieving no-good scrounger, being immediately kicked off benefits, and the very possible prison sentence?

One rule for them.

They really should do it the way disabled students allowance is done. That is, you're assessed and it's agreed you need x, y & z. If it's equipment, it's bought for you. If it's coloured paper, ink, etc. you buy them yourself and submit receipts and a form at the end of the year.
