My partner and I seperated in September, since then he has missed the October payment on his BarclayCard.

Barclaycard have been on the phone every three hours for a week and a half, it's been quite creepy in that they have been trying differant patterns of times to catch him in.

He visits his son regularly and I have asked him repeatedly to get in touch with them and get it sorted but he keeps 'forgetting' to do so (head/sand interface) a statement arrived the other day and it accidentally fell open, like they do. Since he left he has been living on his card and his balance is scary.

What's the best course of action? I'm a single mum, living on benefits and I don't want my idiot ex's creditors chasing him at this address or worse still Bailiffs turning up if he continues not to pay.

I wrote this letter to Barclaycard:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Re:

Please can you update your records to note that XX XX doesnt live at this address, we have seperated, and hasnt done since the 20th September 2012.

Can you ask your agents to contact him directly on his mobile number: XX this is the only number my idiot-ex can be contacted on.

I dont have a forwarding address for him but he does pick up his post from this address every so often.

My personal circumstances are such, single mum on benefits, that I do not want idiot ex's creditors chasing me or this addresses credit score adversely affected in any way.

Thank you for your time.

Best regards

I feel a bit mean but I have enough to worry about as it it.

Hi DG and welcome to CAG

I assume this is HIS card and not a joint one but please confirm.

Make a note of thetime and date of every call for a complaint. If they call more than 10 times in the next week, let us know and we'll advise about complaining to BC.

You should be able to distance yourself from his debts and his creditors, so you and your credit rating are not affected.

If this isnt a joint account, how about charging them per minute for wasting your time (just as the guy who was plagued by PPI reclaim company did)

He told them he would charge them £10 per minute then recorded each call until they had wasted 19 1/2 minutes of his life, then issued invoice for £195.

When they didnt pay up, he sued them and they settled in full before the matter came to court- and stopped hassling him.

(Hi slik, how goes it?)

Yes, it's his card, thank goodness. I've written to Barclaycard and advised them that he doesn't live at the home address anymore and they should call him on his mobile and not at the home number. The calls have since stopped and miracle of miracles he has rung BC and explained the situation.

Thanks for your help.

Hi DG,

Good but, if they call again, keep a log of all calls.

  • 1 month later...

My idiot-ex has been late with two payments on his BarclayCard, the first time in October/November and again in December/January.

After several weeks of calls from BC - every three hours/6 days a week, I read through a few old threads and ending up writing to BC advising them that idiot-ex doesn't live at the home address and please do not call the home number, remove it etc. I gave them his mobile number and haven't heard from them since untill last week when a rep from BarclayCard called. He hasn't paid his Dec payment on the card Im guessing. Ive asked him to call BC and change his address details and please sort it out.

Idiot-ex idea of dealing with things seems to be stick his fingers in his ears and his head in the sand or alternatively blame me for his problems and then ignore them.

I'm starting to get worried, the house is in joint names and if BC get hard ass about non payment could it affect me and my kid?? I don't want court orders and debt collectors calling or in the worse case scenario, we lose the house.

Any ideas how I can dis-associate myself from him and his bloody debts? Im a single mum on limited debt and I already suspect he's saddled me with paying back the joint overdraft.

Hi DG,

I see in your earlier post you said, " I don't have a forwarding address for him but he does pick up his post from this address every so often. "

This may have encouraged BC to continue to use your address as a contact for your ex and you need to stop them doing this.

Did BC tell you anything about why they were calling your number. If they breached Data Protection Reg'ns, you should make a formal complaint as a means of stopping them calling you for good.

Even if they didn't breach DP Reg'ns, you can still write to BC giving them one final chance to stop calling you on the basis that your ex has no link to your address, nor does he collect any mail from you.

This should be done with any creditor that writes to your ex at your address.
