ive exceed overdraft limit, hit with £6 per days charges

hi

 

i've got a natest overdraft limit of £2,100. i have used it in full, then interest pushed it over £2,100 on 14 Sep, since then £6 per day charges have clocked it up even more and still to this day now.

 

i switched my wages from work to another bank 6 months ago, then somehow successfully applied for £2k natwest overdraft in May, all to pay for my old payday loans.

 

i might just pay a few hundred quid to get it to £1900 or something and out of the £6 a day danger zone...

 

but also ideally im thinking off going in the branch ask for my account to be closed and freeze the £6 charges and ideally pay off the debt over a period of time ie payment plan Are they quite reasonable with things like this?

Hi Steve.

 

Think you may struggle to get them to listen to you but it's always worth a try, regarding 'closing' the account this will not happen whilst there is a negative balance. You should write to them explaining your circumstances with regards to your financial position, priority debts (rent / mortgage, electricity, gas) and how the charges are impacting on your ability to pay for basic necessities. Explain the effect on the charges and ask for help. If you have any DD's set up then cancel them on the NatWest account.

 

I think getting the account under the o/d limit is the way to go as I believe when the account is £250.00+ over any agreed limit the collections department take over the management and decision making role of the account, Collections people are not exactly the best people to speak to if you are already in trouble.

I have been getting charged £6 a day each day for the past 2 months on an account I don't use and only went over due to them taking out an account fee. So it's gone from £3 overdrawn to over £200 within a month and a bit. They did not write to me to tell me I was overdrawn until last week... I can't afford to pay out this amount in charges plus the next £200 they will charge me. Anyone been in this situation???
