I have a debt with J D Williams and it has been passed to Lowell, then to Advantis.

I sent a letter to Advantis with £1 requesting a copy of the CCA.

I have now received a letter back from them stating that a catalogue account is not covered by the Consumer Credit Act 1974

and therefore a contract is not required to open the account.

Is this correct? If not, how can I reply to their letter saying that they are wrong?

Thanks in anticipation of assistance

moved to the cat forum

it is CCA account.

however typically, your first order acted as your agreement and they would post 2 for y to sign.

how old is this a/c

an is it still active?

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

I have had the catalogue since about 2001 but don't use it anymore, and haven't done for years. Surely as it is a CCA account I should be able to request a copy the same as loan companies?

entirely upto you... But i found that some defaults only showed up on one or 2 of the CRA files.

worth using noddle (callcredit) free and getting a £2 statutory credit report off the other 2 listed below.

Experian

http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/statutory-report.html

Equifax

http://www.equifax.co.uk/Products/credit/statutory-report.html

I was only using experian for a while thinking i had only one default. got the stat report off equifax and free one off noddle to discover more i didnt know about

If i help feel free to click star on my post. cheers
