I went onto Quidco to check if two hotels I had booked during the week had tracked.

When I was on I noticed £4 cashback for a "Free eye test" from Optical Express.

I was due an eye test back in February, but had been quite busy and never got round to it, and realistically I probably need reading glasses for the new phone I have - so I filled in the details and the called me today to arrange the appointment (the time I picked online was not available).

Anyway - they went through all my details, and then in what sounded like a sprint to cover T&Cs they mentioned "Free eye test subject to purchase" - which does not really seem like free to me.

I pointed out in Scotland eye tests are free - and asked why it should be "subject to purchase" - and they advised they did not realise I was in Scotland - this after just taking my address - and booking an appointment in Scotland.

Nothing in Quidco mentions the "subject to..." bit.

I have no intention of buying from them - as in the UK they must furnish you with your prescription but are permitted to withhold your PD (the distance between your pupils), so you can get glasses elsewhere. I already know my PD its 69 and excepting major trauma its unlikely to change.

So it might be worth getting more details if you consider taking up this offer.

Hi,

I discovered your comment this morning and there seems to be some crossed wires here.

The offer of a free eye test and £4 cashback is not subject to purchase. The terms and conditions are shown below our offer on the Quidco website and I’d like to reassure you that if these are all adhered to, then you will receive both the free eye test and £4 cashback.

I hope this clarifies this issue. Please contact me at customerfeedback @ opticalexpress.com (without spaces) if I can be of any further assistance.

Thanks,

Sandra
