Hello.

I recently telephoned BT to pay for my service. I was taken through security, and was then asked for my card details, which I provided. I was told that the transaction had been processed for the amount of £54. I explained that it should have been for £119, and it transpired that I had paid into somebody elses account. Now I have to claim the money back through the bank, which will take several weeks -- meaning I am without money I desperately need (which will prevent me from paying other bills).

The problem I have with this is that BT DID NOT tell me how much they were taking before they took the money.....had they told me, then I would have explained that it was an incorrect amount (as I did), and the mistake would have been prevented.

So.....what can I do? Isn't this a serious breach of some legislation or other? Do I deserve compensation? More importantly, can I be released from my contract as a result of this negligence?

I must say that, moments before this incident, I was explaining to a friend just how little I thought of every service BT offer, and how BT couldn't possibly drop any lower in my opinion (ironic, eh?).

Hope somebody can help

Did you say that you were phoning to pay your account, in which case they may not have said how much they were taking , no I dont think you can be released from your contract, cant see how you would get compensation (I assume BT are not pressing you to pay your bill until this money is refunded) i think its just a mistake, human error, it happens, very annoying but get an apology from them (they may give you a credit off your bill as a gesture of good will)

Not sure why it will take several weeks though to get your money back no doubt others will know why it may take so long.

If I have been of any help, please click on my star and let me know, thank you.
