My Mum who is 84 uses a laptop for email to keep in touch with family and friends.

She has a hotmail address but lately the computer is taking ages sometimes 20 minutes before it will allow any actions. We have worked out it will respond only when the adverts on the right hand side panel begin showing and not before.

Is there anything we can do to speed it up as she is totally fed up with it and threatening to go back to writing letters. She really used to enjoy sending emails.

Many thanks

LT

Are you referring to the adverts on the "hotmail" website? If so you can run "windows live messenger" to receive the emails rather than the web-based version.

If in doubt, contact a qualified insured legal professional (or my wife... she knows EVERYTHING)

Or send a cheque or postal order payable to Reclaim the Right Ltd.

to

923 Finchley Road London NW11 7PE

Click here if you fancy an email address that shows you mean business! (only £6 and that will really help CAG)

If you can't donate, please use the Internet Search boxes on the CAG pages - these will generate a small but regular income for the site

Please also consider using the

C.A.G. Toolbar

I think the laptop probably has a virus. Install http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and do a quick scan (it is free) and then remove any baddies (if it finds anything).

Another option would be to install http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html to use as a web browser (much better than Internet Explorer), and then install

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ onto it. This will stop unwanted ads.

Hope she gets it sorted either way.

If all else fails, kick them where it hurts and SOD'EM;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi all

Rebel11 I followed the link and all the instructions. All was going well until I tried to save the file.

A message popped up saying You do not have permission. Ask the Administator for permission. Do you want to save this file to documents.

As my Mum is the only person using the laptop her account is the administrators. Any other suggestions on how to save this file. It is getting very frustrating :frusty:

Many, many thanks

LT
