Hello Friends,

Does anyone know if a default by carphone warehouse (which I have settled already) can be removed from the credit file in any way??

I took an O2 contract with them in June 2007, In Jan 2008 I lost my phone. I approached their store to file a claim as I was paying for the insurance. Unfortunately, due to a family incident I had to rush home (out of UK) and did not take the new phone (via insurance). I came back in Oct 2008. By the time I was back there was a default against my credit file for £ 535..

Recently, I lost a job this year in Feb, because my employer had a policy that all the employees should pass the credit checks. I then settled this bill immediately but the default is still there even though it shows as settled.

Does any one know if there is a way to get this removed please? I feel I paid a very heavy price .. lost my job, cannot get a phone contract, cannot apply for credit cards/mortgages. Though I have a good financial calibre, I am totally paralyses due to this default !!! Please help.

Sonia

Hi

Usually a default will stay showing on a credit file for 6 years.

If the defaulted amount is paid it will show as settled but will remain on the report and marked as settled.

From our experience, removing settled entries is not something that lenders or service providers are happy or willing to do,although of course they can do this if they want to.

The only way I think you will get it removed,is by showing that it should not have been there in the first place.

How long did it take them to deal with the insurance side ?

If you can show that they failed in their contractual obligations, there may be a case to argue that it was them who breached before you.

What was the defaulted amount-and how long from them resolving the insurance claim to you finding out was it ?

Do you agree that the defaulted amount was an accurate figure ?

Also did you inform them that you were leaving ?
