Curiosity is my downfall. they might want to try and offer you something, no harm in listening, but I would not committ to anything, I would just say until they are prepared to put an offer in writing and it is acceptable, the court action will go ahead, but you are not making a committment either way.

I have a feeling they are going to try and settle for a lesser amount and see if you accept.

I would give them a call, listen and simply say .... "Thank you Mr Alliance & Leicester please put any future offer in writing"

Curiosity would get the better of me too.

Fair enough, If you don't feel comfortable, maybe just write a letter explaining that you only wish to deal with them in writing, Ask them to put their call in the form of a letter.

Curiosity!

Are the A&L turning into MI5?

i personally would just ring them - that's the only way you'll find out.

Yes you are at the stage where they normally pay up, you have'nt had an active account with them for two years? That's why they are checking your address.

We haven't got the money, so we've got to think!

But they have been corresponding with you and sending confidential information protected under the Data Protection Act. They know you have issued a court claim, and you don't know how they got your number. I seriously doubt that this was A&L. If they needed to check your identity they should have done this in writing at the outset. You should not give out personal information over the phone.

We hear a lot about identity theft. People will phone up and ask for your bank security details pretending they are a bank. Personally I won't give them that information, even if I know full well who it is. Ask for everything in writing if they want information.

I initially used my parents address for my statements etc but on my court form i used my address as the primary address for all corrospondence. A my account was witht their debt collection agency before i paid it off thinking back they had my number so maybe they got it from them. They had my parents address but were concerned they had 2 other addresses for me as the one on the court form was my new one which they wouldn't of recognised! Now i'm confused!!!!:confused::confused:
