DHCP client has failed to start.

I can connect to my network but have no internet access.

 

Any ideas?

When I put my pointer on the internet icon it says "The dependency service or group failed to start".

I have successfully found and deleted 40 odd infected files which have probably caused this to happen. I have run cmd sfc/scannow which found problems that it could not fix and I have also reset the wireless adaptor with cmd and that has not helped. In the network and sharing centre, network discovery is off. When I try to turn it on, I get the same message. "The dependency service or group failed to start".

 

Is everyone having a day off today?

Never mind, I've fixed it:-).

 

For anyone else who has the same problem, here's how I fixed it:-

 

Run cmd as Administrator.

 

Type:

net localgroup administrators localservice /add

 

Then type:

net localgroup administrators networkservice /add

 

Then reboot.

I assume this was a desktop PC ?. Is it at home ?. I assume that your router was dishing out your IP addresses, if it didnt work you may be lucky and it will carry on using your previous one or may give you the 'auto' 169.... one which wont let you connect to the 'net.

It's a friends laptop. I have fixed it once before when she had a virus. I done scans with Malware Bytes and Avast. They both found infected files.

you've had virus problems on this before, right? Sounds like your machine is rooted. You probably need to reinstall Windows.

The machine seems fine now. It looks like she has been downloading some dodgy toolbars and stuff.

or it's reinfecting itself. Seriously. I know how much of a ball ache reinstalling is (and I take daily backups), I wouldn't recommend it if I didn't think it might help.
