I haven't done a torrent or P2P since the days of Napster but hate these companies that are just finding things to make money from.

This is the best bit:

"Privacy International said on Monday that it plans to sue ACS:Law for violating the privacy of internet users over the security breach. It reckons the names and personal details of targets of ACS:law's legal nastygrams could become the target of scams or identity theft as a result of the email leak. The privacy activists are also briefing the Information Commissioner's Office on the breach." ®

Weren't ACS Law being investigated for RIPA abuses too, and how they got the IP addresses? Hopefully they'll be hit with the full £500K fine and this will blow them out the water.

Having said that, I don't agree with 4Chan posting the database online. Mind you 4Chan are legion and if they've done it with an actual view to the consequences for ACS Law then fair play, in a way, and remember IP addresses can be spoofed...

Unfortunately I can't post the link due to having a too low post count, but just had a look on the BBC News technology section and there is another torrent out containing plusnet customers. Could this truly be the end for ACS law? I can't see them wriggling out of this one.

Have a read of this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACS:Law

And especially this part

The main partner of the company, and its only registered solicitor,[3] is Andrew Crossley. Crossley has twice been found guilty of conduct unbefitting a solicitor by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, in 2002 and again in 2006.[4] In August 2010, the Solicitors Regulation Authority confirmed that Crossley was being summoned to his third disciplinary tribunal, in response to ACS:Law's action against suspected file sharers.[5]

Also the charge is 'file sharing' but if you are downloading then you aren't the one that is sharing.

The thing is, they have, and there is, 'no' proof whatsoever that you have done this, all they have is an IP number which proves nothing.

When you think of the pensioners and disabled who have found a new interest to while away the Autumn of their life, especially if they have been completely lawful all their lives, it could be the last straw.

Having said that, I don't agree with 4Chan posting the database online.

They didn't hack in or anything, an error by ACS left it open on their site for all to go and get, it's just that 4Chan were the ones to notice the boob.

I downloaded this lot last night and have been going through it all.

I found one PDF of a scanned document containing full credit card details of one victim of ACS:Law.

So far the cases I've seen are incredible. One 69yr old gent while away on a family holiday has downloaded porn at home - according to ACS:Law. You couldn't make this all up!

It's not only Sky customers but it's also BeThere, PlusNet, O2 and more.

Oh, it's also not 350MB as everyone is saying - that's the size of the RAR file. It's actually 750MB.

The stuff in these files is amazing. There's a couple of CVs applying for jobs as paralegals and all sorts. Some of this stuff is serious business too.

As an asides they've recouped around £950K and if I read this right, they take about 35% of that so I'm guessing their funds before wages, taxes etc will be around £332,500. If they get hit with a fine in excess of £250K I'm guessing they'll sink without a trace.

there is a helluva lot of info on that file, im downloading it now from a well known torrent site, its 365mb ffs. and some of the comments from what has been found in there is funny as anything, personal emails from him to his ex wife etc... replies, names etc... some real breach of data protection there, so.... if my fathers file is in amongst that lot, can i sue him under data protection??

regards
