I've had my laptop for almost 3 yrs now and had the 'whatever happens' cover plan for the duration of that time.

The laptop fell off a breakfast bar onto a concrete floor and landed on its side which caused considerable damage so i arranged for it to be collected and repaired under the cover plan.

A few days later i was informed by text message that the parts had been ordered and i would receive an update within 5 days... 8 days later i had not heard anything so contacted them and they said it was with the engineer 'getting fixed' so i would be receiving it back shortly, however i called back again today to receive an update and was informed that the laptop will not be getting fixed after being inspected because the damage or probably more so the cause of the damage means that it is not covered?!!

so i will be receiving my 'broken laptop' back on monday with a letter explaining exactly why it is not covered so i wanted to start getting info on how this is possible for currys to refuse to repair it, and what i can do to ensure i do get it repaired because im so ****ed off that after paying for this cover for so long that they can simply just refuse to fix it.

Especially when the cover plan is called 'whatever happens' and is supposed to cover all accidental damage?

please advise me on what my rights are regarding this and what i can do to fight the case, ive already got an address to write to which is the 'claims investigation department' so im assuming that might be the only way to appeal against the decision but i need to know what i can say in the letter that will give me some professional points to argue?

Thanks for reading this anyway and i hope to hear back from someone,

Kevin

Welcome to the site Kevin.

We have had a number of these issues here in the past.

So you say that you took out this whatever happens for 3 years and that this is still in force ?

Have you got a copy of the terms and conditions of the policy ?

First thing I think you should put something in writing to your store manager and keep a copy.

Going in the store to discuss it will not give you a record of communications.

Trading standards would want to see that you had made efforts to sort things out and would want to see proof and response from them.

Hi,

Your laptop repair problem was a while back. How did you get on and did you eventually get your laptop repaired/replaced. I've got the same problem, only difference is my laptop fell out my sons hand when he was about to start going down the stairs. Laptop came back unrepaired with a letter saying damage caused by abuse, misuse or neglect is not covered. Was asked to appeal to Gary Perryment, after doing so, got a reply saying the same thing and apparently they'd looked at the case with a senior technician and found the damage to be inconsistent with my explanation of events. Only got that letter today so don't know what to do next.
