Hi i have just received a letter from telogram addressed to my husband asking him to call them to confirm that the address some clients hold it is correct. My husband is abroad at the moment so i called them and said that the address is correct but they wouldn't say who their client was or what was this all about.

I am a bit concerd now as neither me or my husband have any idea what is this all about, who are they?

Hi,

I have read somewhere on the forum that Telogram work with debt collection agencies in tracing debtors so that may be what it is for. They also send out letters to names that they think are the debtor they are chasing, a"phishing" letter.

If you rang them from your home phone, they will have that number too.(unless you withheld it)

It's a case of wait and see what pops through the door

THis "telogram' company have not only phoned my neighbours but also have started writing to people in the area with the same surname.

They are trying to make contact with my daughter who has gone to south africa and has been there since last october, we do not have direct contact with her and yes she has left some debt, we have contacted those companies we know about and told them that she is where she is.But this company is obviously disbelieving.

Is what they are doing illegal and what steps are bets to take.

I am aware they are breaking the data protection act but surely this even more serious that that?

apppreciate any help

You need to Report this to the OFT and Trading Standards as this is against their Guidelines.

Consumer Direct

It is a pity that that you telephoned them as you will have now opened the floodgates for them to start to send threatening letters, and making loads of telephone calls to you.

As has been confirmed above, this was a 'phishing' trip, but unfortunately they have 'caught' you and they will be relentless.

As soon as you start to get letters and telephone calls, visit this thread again, and someone will be here to offer help and guideance.
