I have had dealings with N Power, when I moved into my new house I had my meter changed from a Quantum meter to a normal gas meter, however they didn't update their records and sent me a bill for over 600 pounds. I checked the meter readings and phoned them up. I had to give the new meter serial number and the meter readings, I was told that their records would be updated and I would recieve an new bill within 10 days. This never arrived. I then decided to change supplier so I wasn't running up a huge gas bill. 6 months later I recieved a new bill from n power for 700 pounds with the old meter readings on. Once again I telephoned them and gave the serial number of the new meter. I was told I would recieve a new bill within 10 days. This never arrived. This has now been going on for 3 years, every 6 months I recieve a bill with the old meter reading on. I won't pay until they get the bill right. They even sent someone round to my house so see if they could resolve the matter. I told the man what had been happening and he suggested that I report them. I'm waiting for the new bill to arrive within the next month, lets see if they get it right.

It sounds like they are all the same, when I ring N Power they kept telling me that I hadn't give them the new serial number - it's not my job to but I did. On the third phone call to them I told them I wouldn't give the serial number and told them to look into their file. I gave them the approximate dates of when I had rang. After about 5 minutes they confirmed that I had given the serial number twice, it's just they had not updated the records.

If I was you let them try and take you to court, how dare they say they'll refund your money when it all sorted. Get them to sort the problem out first and then repay the bill. It will take you ages to get you money refunded.

Speak to you new supplier and ask them when the meter readings, and what the readings were and when they were sent to N Power, then call N Power and give them the date, I'm sure that somewhere along the line they will find the meter readings. If you have the meter readings and your last bill from N Power you can work out how to calculate your bill, it tells you how to do this on the back of the bills. If you can't find a old bill let me know and I will dig out one of my bills.

Regards

Danler

Hi Danler, yeah have rang n power about readings have phoned BG (new supplier) about meter readings, n power say they havent recieved them BG say they havent recieved them, feel as tho am going round in circles, also, (while im ranting!lol) you have to phone their premium rate number and am left on hold for 20-30 mins at a time!! have phoned about 7 times regarding this and am running out of steam, have got the letter yesterday saying about court proceedings, and also interest will be calculated at 8% per annum, AND costs of the action are also being added to the amount due AND copy of the summons will be served by the court in due course which will include additional costs of £120.00, was going to phone first thing monday morning but am not sure what to say and what my rights are, am i entitled to say naff off and take me to court, feel a little outa my depth really, also about the readings, apparently my lecy meter was set wrong (by n power) and the readings are far too high in any case, (which is why BG were getting 'specialist team' to ring me)

Thanks

Hi Lesken

When you switched over to BG did you give the meter readings or was it Acuread??

I'm no expert on this matter but how can BG switch you over to their supply without the meter readings, you need to ask BG this. Get a date of when you switched over to BG. If they say they have not recieved the readings then they should have contacted you on this matter or sent somone round from Acuread. Ask BG this in a letter and send it recorded delivery, also send a letter to N-Power or to the pre court devision stating that this account is in dispute - and put all the problems that you have encountered, maybe you want to put in that you are being hasseled and might report them, both BG and N-Power, to the omnumbus. If you have your old bills you can roughly work out how much you actually owe them not what they think you owe them and that you are not reprared to pay an estimate. If you can roughly work out what you owe them put it in writing that you are prepared to make a contribution {weekly/monthly} for X amount of pounds. I would suggest that all communication should be done in writing as phoning them doesn't resolve anything, I know this.

Just as a thought on this matter ask your phone company to give you a full breakdown on all phone calls, I think a full itemised bill costs 1 pound. Make a note of the full length of time spent on hold to n-power. This might come in useful if you reported them to the omnisbus about harrassment. It also shows to the cour that you have tried to resolve the matter.

As for the meter being set wrong, ask BG to send you a letter stating why they think the meter has been set wrong. If N-Power do send you to court I cannot see them winning with all these errors going on. Ask BG to send the letter back within 7 days or email you the reply.

Please remember that I have refused to pay a 700 pound bill for the last 3 years until they send me a bill with the correct meter reading and serial number.

Please let me know what you decide to do

Regards

hello again, thanks for the reply, have phoned BG 3 times with meter readings, and phoned n power numerous times to tell them this and that Bg will be in contact shortly to tell them the meter readings so they can work out the final bill, when i switched over to bg they were given meter readings, then 10 days later, then 3 weeks after that then a further 2 weeks later the latter time was to ask them if they have sent the readings they said they had sent the readings, n power say they havent..... On the matter of the reading being wrong they say i have used 4000 thingy's ( sorry dont know what the're called lol) in 2 month which i have heard is ridiculous, i'll ring them tomorrow and also send a letter just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again for your help

Hi Danler, yes have lots of correspondence from n-power, sent 1 letter and 2 e-mails telling them if they didnt sort it i would go to energywatch that was about 2 weeks ago, then pre-court rang and told them they made a hasty retreat i may add when i threatened with energywatch, however, have recieved a letter from the dreaded "moorcroft" this morning, have had dealings with them before and they are not a nice company!! am going to ring energywatch on monday morning for them to sort it out now there seems there is nothing more i can do...

Thanks

Hi Lesken

Just remember the account is in dispute so mention this to Moorcroft, also deffently get in touch with Energywatch and watch N-Power squirm, they know that the account is in dispute but have handed this to a debt collection agency, Energywatch will not like this. Email them, send them letters and telephone them - record the telephone call if you can.

When you get in touch with Energywatch give them details of when you telephoned them - copies of your phone bill if you still have them and all the emails and letters that you have sent to them, also everything that you have sent to British Gas. Keep me posted please.. I know eventually that my bill will go in the same way..

Have you tried to estimate your own bill yet???

It's now September and I am expecting my 6 monthly bill off them, I'll let you know when I recieve it and I'll keep you posted with what happens - probably the same as usual, but maybe they might get it right and I have to pay them...

I've worked out that I owe them about 387 pounds but the last bill that they sent was for about 700.

I now have a new problem with my new supplier, my digital display went faulty and went back to 000000, I don't know how long this had gone on for but when I phoned them they installed a new meter and said we'll estimate it from previous readings. I am now wondering to challenge them about their faulty equipment and change suppliers or pay the bill...

Regards

Hi Louise, yes it'll be interesting to see what your bill is, although i feel you are in the same predicament as me there, i recieved a bill from british gas (new supplier) for 300 pound (thats with paying 60 quid a month) for 3 months and i toyed with the idea of changing suppliers but then thought if i change supplier i will have 3 on the go instead of 2 which im sure will make the matter even more confusing!! I asked them if they should come out and check the meter and they refused saying they are waiting for the final reading from n-power, so n-power are waiting for a reading from BG and BG are waiting for a reading from N-P??? my head is battered!! let me know what happens with your bill and ill get onto energywatch about mine.....lol

Ill let you know the outcome

  • 3 years later...

I wanted to change to a pre-pay meter to reduce my bill, now N-Power are saying I have an outstanding bill in excees of £350 because their card meter has been charging me incorrectly since 2006!!!!

They haven't been trying to replace the meter for that long, late last year was the first time they asked to replace the meter (just said a new one was needed, no mention of a "debit" or being incorrectly charged). In January 2010 I was told an "investigation" was needed as there was an outstanding debit on my account, and then I could have a new pre-pay meter.

Today I received a phone call from N-Power (this is after they totally ignored my e-mail to there complaints department asking what was happening regarding there so called "investigation") asking why I have been refusing to have my meter replaced with the new one that they have been trying to install since late 2009/early 2010 - advised them I have reguested a pre-pay meter and that I was given some non-sense story about an investigation into my account.

Was told that I have an outstanding debit from 2006 because their meter had been charging me the wrong rate since 2006 of £350+

Promised me I would get a letter confirming this situation and that they would wipe off debit from 2006-July 2009 and I would owe aprox £50.

I could then speak to their debit recovry section and arrange for debit to be paid and after a further 12 months I could change to a pre-pay meter.

Anyone recommend a supplier I could switch to now and get a pre-pay meter and what I do about this utter bulsh*t!!!
