Natwest are planning to charge me £28 on 12 June for going £4.30 over my agreed overdraft limit for less than 24 hours. Half of the £4.30 was interest which I wasn't expecting to be charged till the end of the month, but they'd changed the date.

As soon as I realised my mistake, I rang up and asked if the £28 charge could be removed and after being kept waiting for ages while permission was sought, I was eventually offered a reduction to £14.

I accepted this reluctantly, but said I would write in to see about getting the £14 charge removed as well.

When I got my next notification of charges and interest, I found the charge still stood at £28 and hadn't been reduced, and I was being charged a much higher rate of interest on my overdraft.

I decided to email customer services, but I've got no response from them, zilch.

I really don't want to pay this £28, because, although it's no great sum of money, it's a hefty chunk out of my pension, so can anyone suggest my next move please?

Did they refund you £14 rather than amend the amount which would still mean you getting the notification for the full amount(so credit your account the money)?

As a minor point, maintenance charges now go out 21 days after your statement date, which is now the charging period for your account. If you get paid differently ask the bank to change the date of your statement to pay day or just beforehand.

Hi yourbank, the charge is due to be taken out on 12 June and hasn't been reduced to £14 as promised on the phone.

I've emailed them twice using the address I found here on the forum, but they don't respond.

I would like to get the whole charge withdrawn if poss, because it seems extortionate to me and I just can't afford it.
