how often can they cancel appointments

our local hospital (kings mill) have a tendancy to cancel my father in laws diabetic appointments and his eye appointments (he has hemmoraging in both his eyes), every time he has an appointment they are cancelled with the only reason given as "unforseen cercumstances" sometimes these circumstances are unforseen upto 4 months in advance

is there any way to challange these as he is getting alot less appointments than we feel he should due to his condition

Please note:

Unfortunately there is, or was, no limit to cancelled appointments. They are a pain in the backside and, sometimes dangerous.

When I was working for the NHS I was a member of a departmental team but I was responsible for my own case-load, if I became unwell, or fell over or my car wouldn’t start then a whole bundle of patients had to be cancelled.

This was amplified if I was away for more than one day as the knock-on effect of the cancelations just snowballed with a whole month or more being re-scheduled, initial assessments being moved back etc. etc.

I am not an apologist for the workings of the NHS, far from it but, cancelations are a pain for everyone involved and there will probably be a good reason.

Having said that your father will have a consultant and I would strongly recommend that you write to the consultant’s secretary and outline the negative effect that the cancelations are having upon his condition copy the letter to the chief executive of the hospital trust and follow the letter up with a telephone call to the consultant’s secretary about 10 days later. You could sell tickets to watch them running about and shouting at each other.

I do very little but I do it very, very well

If I've helped give my scales a click

I have no legal experience and all advice given is based on the knowledge I've gained from this site.
