Hi there. Just after some advice really please. I sent the standard request under DPA to the halifax for all information with regards to charges over the past 6 years. I received a letter today to say that they had received my letter and i should refer to my monthly statements for the information i require.Basically if i nedd a copy of my statements they will be £5 each. What shouldi do next ???

Did you send the £10?

No. I thought that they would write to me to tell me that this request would cost £10 and did i agree. But instead I got the letter as stated. What should I do now. Write back and say what ??

i have sent exactly the same letter back today but in this one i have given them the authority to debit the £10 charge from my account. Will this do the trick do you think ???

If the banks were acting with propriety, all this would be OK. However, they are not. The only way to be as sure of the matter as you can is to send the £10 straightaway. They will have to account for the money. Allocate it correctly. And of course there will be no basis for them to say that the request is incomplete.

You will be able to claim this back if the disclosure reveal unlawful charges.
