my girlfriend had an unpleastent ex boyfriend who ripped her off for thousands. onr of his scams was not paying any bills and hiding the post and keeping the money.. we have just finished paying off £1500 to one debt collection agency for council tax now another one has turned up for £700. these people dont care she was ripped off and have already visiyed my house and been told to sod off.

are there any ways of getting around paying this???

I don't know the answer, but was the boyfriend named on the council tax bills at all? If so, then I would assume there would be some liability on his part? Maybe contact CAB for some advice on the matter as it doesn't seem fair that your girlfriend is stung for all of it!

Don't forget to contribute to the CAG. Without them we would probably still be drafting our prelim letters.

OH Cap One - £436/ So far received £40. MCOL submitted 17/7/06. Caved 4/8/06 for full amount!!!

OH Monument - £140, claim filed 8th May. Requested judgement by default, settled in full 4th July via out of court settlement (see thread). Total £192ish received.

Me Barclays - £630. Received letter 13th May offering £300 full and final (they can bog off). Claim filed 16th May. Acknowledgement of Service filed 22nd May to defend all of the claim. Allocation Questionnaire completed and Stay been ordered by Judge on 18/7/06!!!

the debt collection people say if they cant contact the bastard she is responsible. does it make a difference whose name is first on the bill then?

No it makes no difference at all, even if they do find him it will still make no difference. Each person named on the bill is fully responsible for the debt, which means either can be made to pay the full amount. It isn't likely to be split 50/50. Bascially the council want the money, they don't care who pay it and they will go after the most likely person they think is capable of paying.

If however its causing difficulty you should be able to set up an arrange to pay back the debt at a set amount each week?
