Yes they could - but my feeling is that they are ulikley to jump accross comapnies. It could be an abuse of DPA for them to pass info like this from one company to another.

Having recently dealt with Payplan, a debt counselling service, they told me that if you have a current account with the same organisation as your credit card provider, they are entitled to take money from your current account to pay the minimum payment on your credit card. They only do this if your account is in credit as far as I know.

 

I was also told that they can demand immediate payment of any overdrafts you may have. As for the credit cards, they may try and close the accounts and demand immediate payment but as long as you offer them a monthly payment of some sort, if they took you to court, it's unlikely they'll win.

 

I think it's unlikely that they'd close your credit card accounts anyway. Are you in a position to change credit cards? Lots cheaper than Halifax.

 

I hope this makes sense, I'm not too good at explaining things!
