This might seem trivial, my daughter purchased a pair of trainers from sportsworld. After walking round the town a bit more she decieded that she did'nt actually want them. So she took them back and asked for a refund the store manager told her she could not have a refund as they were a discount store and did not give refunds but she could have a credit note.

At this point my wife informed the manager that she was entitled to a refund and would not accept a creditnote. He then told my wife that he was the manager and was aware of the law and he would not give a refund, he then informed my wife (who was only trying to excersice her rights) that if she did not leave the store he would call the police and have her ejcted from the store.

I intend to complain about this but just need to know where i stand, am i right in saying that you do not have to give a reason to get a refund and also that you do not have to accept a credit note. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there. I have done a little digging to find out what your rights are and found that unless the trainers were faulty, the shop doesn't necessary have to offer you a refund. The offer of a credit note was purely a goodwill gesture. Do they have any signs up anywhere in the store to state their returns policy. The policy could also be printed on the receipt.
