Hi

I'm a 1st time user and posted this thread in the wrong forum 1st time.

I have 2 questions i hope someone can answer

1) About 3 years ago American Express increased my credit limit without telling me or sending me a new form to fill out. I've now reached that credit limit  and i'm having problems meeting repayments. Can American Express increase my limit without my permission or sending a new contract out.

2) They recently sent me a new card (Chip and Pin) but no contract agreement, is that legal, i have read a few threads and i'm a bit confused about the whole thing, hope someone can help.

Thanks

George

Hi George

1) Yes they can. Your original agreement will have a prescribed term which says something like "we will tell you what your credit limit is". Of course, you don't have to accept the limit. Cahoot did that to me and I phoned them and told tem to take it back down again, which they did.

2) Yes. The new card is on the same agreement as the old one. It's just the same as when they issue you a new card because you lost the old one or because the old one has expired.

Hello Steven!

I'm working my way through CAG to try and find as many Amex Threads as I can that could be moved into the new Amex Forum.

This seems to be a quiet Thread, but may be better off in the Amex Forum?

Below is the Message I'm otherwise sending to people with Live Amex Threads spread around on CAG:

Would you object to having this Thread moved into the new Amex Section?

I'm trawling CAG to see how many Amex Threads are live, and yours is one of them.

If we can gradually move them all into the new Amex Forum, I think it would be better for all, as we can then start to see the bigger picture of how they operate.

At the moment, Amex Threads are spread thinly around CAG, whereas it could be better to group them all in one place to concentrate our efforts.

I'm not part of the CAG Site Team, so this request would have to be made to one of them to organise it.

No problem if you would rather leave the Thread where it is. This is just a helpful suggestion as I think you could get more people looking if it was in a dedicated Amex Forum.

Cheers,

BRW
