I didn't get my December credit card statement (due around xmas time - I received this months statement today).

as a result they have applied a late payment charge

They have also cancelled the interest free balance transfer & started charging interest

I realised last week that I hadn't received a statement, looked on line & made a payment & saw the late payment charge, so I wrote to them telling them that I hadn't received the statement so they shouldn't apply the late payment fee. I didn't know about the interest at the time.

They rang me at work to tell me that it was my fault - I should know when my statement was due, so I should have contacted them earlier. They couldn't refund because they had no proof that I hadn't received the statement.

They will presumably have put a late payment on my credit file too.

I was in a very public place so I couldn't really say much.

Any suggestions about what to do now?

The credit card is MBNA administered, with a low credit limit that they won't mind losing

I would try phoning again and see if you can get someone with a better attitude - it worked for my Mum with Capital One under the same circumstances, so they do have the discretion to do this..

All help is merely my opinion only - please seek legal advice if you need to as I am only qualified in SEN law.
