Hi,

I currently have arrears on my barclaycard which I am aiming to clear within the next week or 2. I have had a letter from Mercer who I understand from other threads is a dormant company and is owned by Barclaycard.

I want to pay some of the money today - is my best bet to pay barclaycard direct and then write to Mercers to tell them what I have done/will be doing?

Any advice on how to proceed gratefully received.

Mercers are B'cards in house pseudo DCA.

Try and deal directly with B'card rather than any third party.

Ignore Mercers as they will do they same to you.

Also NEVER speak to them on the phone as they pay no attention to what you have to say.

Be VERY careful whose advice you listen too

Hi All, not sure im postin this in the right place, (first timer here!)

Could do with some advice!!!

Had a call from a company called "Mercers" or something like that, saying they wanted to speak to my partner about money. Have read a few threads which i came accross via internet stating "mercers" a crappy bogus company setup by Barclays to put the frightners on folk! Not sure what to beleive???? everyone seems to be contradicting themselves, anyway... called them back on 0151 473 2528. and got in contact with some snotty nosed cow who demanded money straight away, gave them a bit of bull and said i was a lawyer, suddenly they were all nicey nicey, but still not sure what they do? Any info u can give me would be much appreciated.

Hi Slim

Best start a new thread on this, & btw try not to speak to them on the phone.

The only man who sticks closer to you in adversity than a friend is a creditor.

Debt Collection Charges

There is no legal basis for a creditor or a debt collection agency acting on its behalf to claim collection costs from a debtor unless there is an express provision in the original agreement.

Without such provision, collection charges cannot be demanded as a debt due under the agreement.
