  1. Hi, I took out the fantastic TWO YEAR FIXED RATE ISA (4%) in March 2012 but the adviser at hand failed to mention that there is a time window before you can make any further contributions to you ISA account for this financial year. So far I have only utilized about 3k of this years ISA cash allowance, leaving me short of £2,640 remaining for this year. What action can I take to ensure that I can utilize all of my allowance on this TWO YEAR FIXED RATE ISA (4%) rather then opening another ISA. It has to be noted that a copy of terms and conditions were not given to me at the point of sale. Thanks.
  2. I received a fixed penalty notice today for apparently not displaying a current tax disc. My tax disc was displayed and was in date. It had not fallen on the floor. It was not obscured in any way. It was at the top hand corner of the passenger side of the window. I was not with the car when the notice was given so could not dispute it. I drove staraight to the nearest police station and asked for a Police Officer to inspect my tax disc but was refused. I have just written a letter of complaint to the Chief Constable. What I don't understand is how are the Police allowed to do this? How can they issue fixed penalty notices when an offence that has not been committed? I will not pay the fine on principle and will have to go to court but what chance do I have of proving that my tax disc was on display?
  3. Hi, I'm new to the forums here, I was wondering if I could request some advice. I will try to be as concise as possible. I'm a private fixed term tenant in Northern Ireland, the sole rent paying tenant 4 months into a 12 month agreement. For the last few weeks my younger bother has been staying at the apartment as I have a spare room. I noticed a few days ago a damp patch on a wall in the living room which backs onto a shower cubical. Upon inspection I noticed that the grouting was missing/cracked in places, and one tile had begun to crack. I reported this to the landlords agent who in turn reported to him. I then received multiple calls from the agents requesting access in my absence. I did not wish to grant access to the apartment unsupervised but the agents stated that the landlord was insisting. A short time later, I was contacted and told that I would be liable to pay for repairs of £70-80 + an unspecified amount to repaint. I took an evening to consider this, then contacted the agent, stating that I did not feel I was liable and to try to arrange a meeting with the landlord to discuss the issue. A few minutes later I received a somewhat aggressive call from the landlord demanding that I leave the property as I had "destroyed the apartment" and that he would not discuss the matter with me in person as we would "fall out". He is claiming that my questioning my liability and the fact that my brother has been staying in the apartment constitutes breach of contract and that I shall be evicted for it. I was given a verbal 1 month period to vacate the premises. I'm very uncertain as to how I may or can proceed from here. I would be very grateful for any advise. Thanks.
  4. In a contract I'm about to sign (as a tenant), there is the shortest and least explained break clause I have ever seen: "Fixed Term From 08/07/2012 until 07/07/2015. (36 months). Renewable if agreed by both parties 6 weeks notice must be given if the tenants wish to extend the lease. Break at 12 months with 2 months previous written notice by either party. Option to review rent after 18 months" I know the contract term is unusually long, and I can only break it after a year - I'm fine with that, planning to stay. Here is the question: Can I break this contract only on 07/07/2013, with 2 months notice, or can I break it any time after 07/07/2013 with 2 months notice? Anyone have a clue? Usually it is spelled out ...
