  1. If it's part of the managed migration to UC, savings over £16k are ignored for the first 12 months of the claim. See /assets/static/govuk-opengraph-image-dade2dad5775023b0568381c4c074b86318194edb36d3d68df721eea7deeac4b.png Tax credits and some benefits are ending: move to Universal Credit - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK If you have received a Migration Notice letter, then some of your existing benefits will be ending soon. You need to move to Universal Credit.
  2. I do this daily in a jobcentre, people rarely get to speak with a case manager, job centre included. We get 3 or 4 queries a week like this. What I have posted is what will happen, hence why I said drop into local job centre. All national telephony will do is say send a journal message for you case manager, who will never pick up as journal messages are low priorty.
  3. It is and isn't straight forward. You should not claim as a couple, if you are not a couple. You will both need to provide evidence of no longer being together amd potentially need to be interviewd by a compliance officer, just so there is a formal record moving forward. This isn't something new, especially with the current financial crisis. National Telephony will not be able to assist and it is highly unlikely you will get through to an actual case manager. If in doubt drop in to your nearest job centre and make sure you have mentioned it in your journal, just in case it triggers something, later on during the claim. In fact you will probably be told to send a journal message when you call the 0800 number.
  4. So you took an advance but don't owe this debt? Was the advance paid off? It looks like your previous claim, where you took an advance has been closed, as that's the only time a new claim or budgeting advance gets passed to debt management. Normally it stays on your claim and repayments start straight away from any ongoing award.
  5. SDP has to be in payment the month before a natural migration I think it is, so highly unlikely you will get it, as it doesn't exist under UC, unless applied on migration. Technically, your partner can still claim CA as long as they are still offering care for you. They do not need to live with you. If she ends the CA claim, unless she already has LCWRA, she will then be expected to look for work.
  6. If you haven't already done so, send in it in with a covering letter, but also call them, they will either treat it as a late return and honour the original claim date or treat it as a new claim following receipt of the claim form.
  7. It wouldn't/shouldn't be treated as income, as you are selling personal items and not running it as a business. You can sell as many personal items as you like.
  8. Yes they can mandate you to attend various courses if they feel the need. They should have given you a to-do or a letter advising you have been mandated to attend and will face a possible sanction if you fail to engage. Normally happens between the 6 - 12 months of claim starting. It would also count towards your expected hours of job searching you would have agreed to on your claimant commitment.
  9. Only somebody from the DWP can you tell what they want completing and sending back.
  10. Hello Tom - thank you for your words of wisdom that you share with people. Such a noble man sharing good old fashioned honest advise.

A woman in my block gloats about how she is making an application for claiming PIP, I was absolutely horrified because she was gloating about how she has so much money for nothing. As blue badge holder myself, i struggle finding parking and this young lady comes and goes all dolled up with no mobility issues whatsoever parking with a blue badge its appalling. I dare say that from what I could make out that her badge also looked very questionable.

My late husband (god bless his soul), and I who both fought in the war, did not give his life for such people.

I expect the British Tax payers money to go to those who need it therefore I would be grateful if the government can do something about people like this.

Because I live in the same block I fear for reprisals especially from the types of people who enter her property. Even other residents have said how loud she is and how they also have overheard her plans to feign illness to claim PIP so as to bring a person from another country to act as care giver because the British justice system is weak.

My daughters and I believe this person pretended to be homeless in order to qualify for a council flat whilst bragging about how much money she has that she needs to hide to avoid declaration of funds to the state. You just never know if this person is just a common thief or engaged in terrorism financing based on the looks of who comes and goes to her property or my husband and I fought for the wrong country.

I am not bitter nor interfering but it appalls me how people get away with this.

I am scared that she will think its me if I reported her - only because I once said she should be ashamed of herself as she hopped out of her car with her blue badge and there was me parking have a block away.

Is there anyway she will find out ?- my daughter said DWP may share my comments even if I report it as anonymous.

    IS this true?

Anyway keep up the good work and god bless.

Hi, no, names aren't taken when doing an anoymous referral and the DWP never reveal where the allegation comes from.

Tom - much obliged for replying - thats very reassuring - thank you so much.

  11. Did you claim Tax Credits prior to claiming Universal Credit, as it's probably a part year overpayment, which is a standard issue that arises. However Debt Management is the only team that will have access to what the debt is for. Raise a complaint online and ask for an escalation. The rest of the DWP have no access to the debt system, so will never be able to help you.
  12. You also need to read up on permitted expenses as UC rules are different to HMRC rules. Is it a hackney taxi or private hire? Hackney allows all vehicle expenses to be claimed, however a private taxi will only allow the mileage to be claimed, which includes a figure for your insurance etc. Once the income and expenditure has been declared, you can then bank any amount for your holiday pay, but be careful not to go over the savings threshold for UC. See How to report your earnings from self-employment - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK
  13. It should/will be a straightforward no, as legislation doesn't allow for it. To be entitled to carers allowance, there needs to be a qualifying disability benefit in payment, for the person the care was provided for. If no disability benefit claimed, then there will never be an entitilement to carers allowance. There is other criteria as well, but if you don't meet the main one, the rest don't matter.
  14. Remember, it's not your work coach doing this, it comes from ministers and work coaches have to do as directed on a national level. Most work coaches agree that telephone appointments are just as effective as face to face appointment, but the higher ups won't hear of it.
  15. Hmm I would say your are being lied too. Current guidance is based on a ladder approach of current priorities. Top of the ladder is 18 - 24 and then filters down to 25+ caseloads. Our jobcentre is inviting people for a face to face, but then changing it if we get a request for a phone appointment etc. Video calls are now a thing as well, but slow rollout and not too many work coaches want to do them.
