  1. Done that DX. A notepad came up with windows registry editor version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMWPAPosReady] "Installed"=dword:00000001 But IE still can't display web page.
  2. Hi Guys, I picked up a Sony Vaio for next to nothing and it's in pretty good nick. I am however having internet connection problems. I have connected it to my router via ethernet and wirelessly, but Internet Explorer still can't display the web page. The internet icon says connected with 100mbs speed, but still can't work out what's wrong. Thanks in advance.
  3. I know he's not posted for some time, but I'm afraid to say that our friend TideTurner has sadly passed away. He was the one that introduced me to this fantastic site, and I know in the past he helped many people on here. Only the longer term members will remember him. Another goodun gone too soon. RIP Tide.
  4. They are not born yet, but he has done everything correctly up to now. He payed £1000 for his bitch, and has paid another KC Registered dogs' owners for their dog to sire the pups. It's her first litter but the vet says she is carrying 4 (maybe 5) pups. He wanted to start his own website, but I told him, unless he is going to become a full time breeder, he may as well just advertise them in the right place.
  5. Hi all. Does anybody know any good reputable websites that you can sell pedigree dogs on. Shar Pei's to be precise. My friend has some for sale, and all Pedigree Papers from both parents will be available. He doesn't want to throw them on Gumtree etc. Thanks in advance.
  6. The Landlord won't delay the installation of the new boiler as we are getting it on the Home Warmth scheme as we get Working Tax Credits. It's costing the Landlord nothing. I myself, would just sit it out, but the wife and kids are a completely different matter :/ We have asked the Landlord on at least 100 occasions (no exaggerating either) to repair things. ie. Back wall fell down 2 years ago, but they just keep promising and promising to get these things fixed, but don't turn up. We don't want to move, but if we did, they would have to get all these repairs done anyway before they could let the property again. We have damp coming through the front wall into the main bedroom, but they still haven't fixed this. I would just tell them were to shove their house as the amount we have paid in rent over the last ten years could have bought the house 2 times over. but Mrs SOD'EM likes it here, and couldn't put up with a move right now. The worse thing is, It's as if it's all my fault the way the Wife is treating me.
  7. Hi all. Been a good tenant for 10 years now, but have the worst Landlord ever. He has many properties, and trades as a business. We are down to get a new boiler in 2 weeks time, but the old one sprung a leak a couple of weeks ago. It was manageable, and we still had hot water and heating. Unfortunately, the water has got into the electrics and if the boiler is turned on, all the electricity in the house blows. They sent a man out this morning who does all the gas safety checks for them, and without even opening up the boiler, he told us that it is beyond repair, and we will have to try and get the new boiler fitted quicker. This cannot happen, so now they are expecting us to go without heating and hot water until 3rd of March. We have kids, so this can't happen. I really think the old boiler can be fixed, but they just don't want to pay for it, when we will be getting a new one in 9 or ten days. I am going to ring them and tell them this is not acceptable, but I don't know where I stand regarding the law. Please help. Thanks in advance.
  8. It never came with a disk Andy, Windows 7 was pre-installed. I have System Image Disks which I have used previously, but the laptop can't read them for some reason. There are no System Restore points either. It says to press F4 on start up for 'Recovery', but that seems fruitless as well
  9. Hi all. I've dug out an old laptop that I want to give to a friend, but I can't remember my password. Burnt Windows Password Recovery to a USB Drive. When I put it in the old laptop, and got it to boot from USB drive, I just get a blank screen with a Smiley Face in the top left hand corner, by the cursor. Any keys I press just adds another Smiley Face. I can't find the same problem happening to anyone else on Google, so I'm quite confused. It is a Samsung R519 running on Windows 7. Thanks in advance. 10. That's the problem. The letter he received said that the decision was made to stop his DLA, and refuse PIP because he didn't attend the assessment. He didn't even know about the assessment because the appointment letter was sent to the wrong address. That was their fault. I thought they would be obliged to keep paying his DLA until they got their act together.
  11. Hi all. A friend of mine has had his DLA stopped because he missed an appointment for a Health Assessment. He knew nothing about the appointment because for some reason they were sending all correspondence to the wrong flat in the house he shares. When someone moved in to the empty flat, the letters were unnearthed. This was unfortunately a couple of days after he was meant to have gone to the assessment. He then recieved a letter (wrong address again) saying his DLA is stopping, and his claim for PIP was denied. All because he never turned up for assessment. He telephoned last month and explained the problem to the DWP, they changed all address details to the correct address, and said they would put it to the claims manager to be dealt with. He was meant to get paid today (if he was still getting DLA) but nothing went in his bank. He has rang them and a rather rude man said it's still waiting for a decision on the claim to be made. A decision was already made as they had sent a letter stopping his DLA, and refusing PIP. But that was not his fault. Should they not still keep paying him his DLA (which he was originally meant to get until the year 2020) until they ask for another Health Assessment? I think it's a bit cruel since they were sending his letters to the wrong place. Please help.
  12. Hi all. I'm using Comodo Ice Dragon as my Search Engine, and Google as my Home Page. For some reason, when I search something on the web and press enter, it gives me results from Bing (not Google). Never had this problem before, and I have looked in the Browser Settings and deleted Bing all together, but still the same. As I'm typing in the Search Box, then Google will offer website suggestions, but after pressing enter, it changes to Bing. I don't like Bing. I don't bother with Toolbars, just the normal Search Box. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.
  13. Hi Guys, I haven't got a clue where we stand, but surely we have some rights. We have been renting our house for 10 years now from a Private Landlord. I say Private, it is in fact a man who owns a Property Company, and owns around 250 properties. We have paid around £66,000 pound in rent without missing a payment in all those years. I don't even think the house is worth £66,000 but there you go. For the first 7 years, we never asked the Landlord for anything whatsoever. However, over the last three years, things outside the house have suffered wear and tear, as would any property. The main problem we have is our back yard wall has fell down (well, half of it has anyway). The other half is loose and could injure someone if it fell on them. We reported this to the Landlords office 16 months ago, along with other less important issues. They sent somebody out who took a list of repairs to be done, and told us they would start as soon as they could. Well, to cut a long story short, 15 million phone calls (and being told that someone would get back to us) later, the repairs are all outstanding. They have even promised us a fresh lick of paint outside as we have decorated the inside ourselves on numerous occasions. We told them that we could maybe use the rent, and get a Builder etc to carry out the repairs to save them bothering, but they said 'no'. We cancelled the standing order on the rent last week because we knew that was the only way to get them to ring us, and they did. They asked about the rent, and we asked about the constant promises of repairs. They didn't want to talk about that, and said that nobody would come near the house if the rent wasn't paid. So, reluctantly we paid over the phone by card. they then promised that somebody would call out again to see the damage last Friday, and as expected, nobody turned up. Moving at this moment in time is really not an option, and we have invested a lot of our own money on the inside to keep it nice. I also cannot remember the last time we signed a contract. Surely they must regard us a decent tenants after 10 years, yet they treat us as if we are the worst. I'm just looking for some general and professional advice on what we can do. Or things we can say to the Company, that would make them realise we have some sort of right to have these repairs done. Hope somebody can help, and thanks in advance. SOD'EM
  14. Thanks for that. Now installed successfully. Only problems now are, direct downloads won't start after downloading, and Windows Update just says checking for updates forever lol. I'll get there. I can download from another Laptop onto USB. That works. But I don't want the owner to have to do that every time she wants to download something.
  15. Hi guys. Just a quick one. I recently done a fresh install of an old Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop. I had a problem installing Drivers from Dell (Ethernet and Wireless Drivers). I have managed to eventually get them done and can access the internet. The problem I am having now is, if I download anything and try to install the program, It won't start. Even in elevated mode. The main issue I am having is updating SM bus Controller. I have tried a fresh download, and tried using Update Driver through Device Manager. Any help is appreciated.
  16. Sorry folks. I've been busy. I actually detect and remove pc viruses for a living, so It's not that. I have tried Internet Explorer, and that's OK. He will have to suffer with that for now lol. Thanks for all your help.
  17. I've tried allsorts. It works fine if I run Firefox as Administrator. It's just the Child thing, when he opens it. I have been on Properties, and given his account full access, but it's still the same.
  18. I didn't apply any restrictions. It was all automatic. I will have a look at the BBC website. See if that helps.
  19. Hi Peeps. I've set up a basic account on my pc for my son. When I start Firefox, the homepage shows just fine. If I click a link, that works just fine. However, when I try and search something, or put a URL in the Address Bar, it just says 'Problem loading page'. I've looked in Firefgox settings, but can't see a problem. Hope someone can help.
  20. Hi guys. My dad is 80 years old, and tech wizard he is not. For some reason some of the buttons on his keyboard are not correct. When he presses 'o' the number 6 appears. And different characters appear when when he presses any of the buttons towards the right hand side of the keyboard. Through remote access I have gone to keyboard language and settings, and everything seems normal. It is set to United Kingdom, and the layout is correct. Is there anything else that can cause this to happen?
  21. It does have an optical drive, and I can get into the BIOS, but I have no disk. A reinstallation of Windows would be great. I need to find a copy of it. I would have to make sure that the disk had all the correct drivers for this laptop. I'm not sure what you mean when you say 'unlock code'. but it does have the product key.
  22. Got a dirt cheap laptop from a company that has gone into liquisation. Unfortunately, this company decided to use Mcafee and Sophos as security. Even though I can log in as Administrator, I am having a major headache trying to get rid of SafeBoot. I have disabled it in 'Services' in 'Safe Mode', yet still it starts. I deleted a dll as suggested by the laptop to stop it starting, but that just ballsed it up. Had to do a system restore, but it still lingers. Any ideas? OS Windows XP Professional. Thanks
