That being the case, to deal with this offence other than by immediate custodial sentence would or may be seen by the public as the court being prepared to condone dishonesty within its own ranks. I am not prepared to allow that perception to be gained.

 

Should have been four years, four months is nothing. With the current prison overcrowding crisis she'll be out in 6-7 weeks. I think the judge missed an ideal opportunity to set an example.

It may be quite a short sentence she actually serves, but it's going to be very unpleasant indeed - and it probably won't end when she's out because she has to face the neighbours again. Being exposed as a thief in that manner makes you realise that having a debt problem is nothing by comparison!!
