hi everybody,

this is my first post on here and it was going to be about claiming back my bank charges, but since then i have just noticed 3 direct debits have been taken from my bank account by KAUPTHING SFPF LTD a first payment on jan 15th for £161.54 followed by payments on 8th feb for £80.78 and another for £80.78 on 8th march.I am pretty sure these payments should not have been taken and i haven`t heard of the company taking the money.I did a search on google and there is mention of other people having the same problem with unusuall amounts of money being taken by direct debit from there accounts by the same company.

I phoned my bank (hsbc) and they gave me a phone number for them in surrey and a reference number.I will give them a call on monday to see if they know what has happend but i`m 99% sure this is not right.

Kaupthing are a specialist banking group so I would imagine if you had any dealings with them you would know about it.

However, they do trade under different days, do any of these ring a bell?

Remember if it turns out these monies have been taken in error, the Direct Debit Guarantee entitles you to a full and immediate refund from your bank - make sure you get it and don't let your bank fob you off.

thanks for that,i don`t recognise any of the names,my only direct debits are the usual ones like car insurance, sky, house insurance, non of which should be anything like £160 or £80.The bank were happy to go ahead with an investigation straight away but i said i will make 100% sure that it is not one of my official direct debits first.

As Barracad said, don't for get you are entitled to a full AND immediate refund - many banks won't do this, but under the guarantee they have to. It's the rules! They will try and fob you off, but it's worth pursuing.

Which, if you ensure you don't allow ANY DDM from your account - difficult, but worth pursuing - this wouldn't be a consideration!
