But what happens when everything is automated and there are no more human jobs for people to increase their income ?

Well i will not be around to see that.

I will be in prison by the sounds of things.

Consumer Dude.

People end up in prison managed by computers..

Interesting thought.:-)

We will adapt. As we always seem to.Look back to the early day of mankind.I am sure you do.

I am off,i am losing the theme, something like that.

Now citizenB has asked a couple of questions that need looking into.

Which i will have a look around and see what i can come up with.

I feel there are many imaginative people in the Bear Garden so a little entertainment while i look for answers.

Could take a little time.I have to pop to another thread.Blood pressure has risen again.

I will return,for sure.

A reassuring thought is this, humans can control computers but we choose to let them rule our lives. If we end up in prison managed by computers, in order to escape our prison, all that is required is to turn off the machine..

Not if Robo Warder is about. You will not interfere with computer, you will be exterminated.

All 3 metres of him or her.Mmm robots will they be him or hers.

Just a couple of articles today.

A universal basic income is an old idea with modern appeal

America.

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream. We can make it come true.

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream and a plan. We hear about the dream every year on the holiday that honors his legacy, with replays of his 1963 speech: “that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed.” America “transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.” A nation where people “will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Switzerland.

Last Friday, 11th March, the Swiss government released new documents discussing a potential scenario of the economic cost of an Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) for Switzerland. In the document, the Swiss Ministry of Social Security and its Federal Council Alain Berset changed their mind about the feasibility of an UBI.

If the goal of the economy is to provide decent-paying work for everyone, that economy clearly isn't doing a good job at the moment. Real wages for most Americans haven't increased in 40 years. Real unemployment—which includes the "under-employed"—is above 10%. Many jobs are now part-time, flexi-time, or "gigs" with no benefits and few protections. And, we spend a lot of money to subsidize so-called "bull**** jobs": more than 50% of fast food workers receive some form of public assistance, for instance.

For those that are interested in this idea and like a good read on a Sunday.

We tend to think that simply giving people money makes them lazy. Yet a wealth of scientific research proves the contrary: free money helps. It is time for a radical reform of the welfare state.

How many truckers are there in Great Britain.

How many people from retailers to manufacturers rely on their income do you think.

Can a machine do your job,has modernisation already cost you a job.

I would think being a truck driver is probably a pretty well paid job.Perhaps one of the few jobs that are well paid that you do not need a degree or two to do well.

But what if they could become fully automated, work 24 hours a day.

You are off your head Tawnyowl, you have had to much of the falling over juice.

Just read this, with a video written about a year ago.

Surely evidence is now mounting for a massive rethink by governments around the world.

Oh,knew i came to put something else on.

San Francisco has 1st fully automated restaurant, whilst Copenhagen has 1st fully automated cocktail bar, - no staff

And Sweden has a automated Grocery store.

Seems to my self anyway the next decade there will be massive changes, but we will see.

Just been looking for the latest news on Basic Income.

Is the World Ready for a Guaranteed Basic Income?

Podcast-Save you reading the article.

Technology is replacing labor at a rapid pace. The Left needs to agitate for a basic income before it's too late.

Just to show people are talking about the Basic Income and organising events to spread awareness. This one from Las Angeles.

Now there is a chap in America called Scott Santens, lives in New Orleans, LA and writes about Basic Income for those interested in how things may develop and latest news from around the world.

So many articles and interest growing, hard to keep track of them all. You can find him on Twitter or Facebook.

Basic income as a global movement around an idea is officially spreading like wildfire. According to Google Trends, interest in the idea has quadrupled just in the past three months.

A graph that shows this.

https://medium.com/basic-income/basic-income-on-the-march-a-month-in-review-3466b9964259#.4gsvj1ut6

The idea of a universal basic income is about to leap from the margins to the mainstream, bringing promises of a happier and healthier population

Imagine a Britain where the government pays every adult the basic cost of living. Whether rich or poor – or, crucially, whether you’re in paid employment or not – everyone gets the same weekly amount, with no strings attached. The harsh, punitive model of modern “welfare” is a distant memory; passing in and out of employment in the so-called gig economy is now something everyone can afford.

Welcome to the world of a unconditional basic income, or UBI, otherwise known as citizens’ income or social wage. It might look like the stuff of insane utopianism, but the idea is now spreading at speed, from the fringes of the left into mainstream politics – and being tried out around the world. The UK Green party has supported the notion for decades:

I would not usually put just one article on,but it deserves it. Has many links to read about Basic Income.

The article was published on 13 th April and has 13,000 shares and 2500 comments so a good read for those interested in the Basic Income idea.

And is proving very popular.

Someone just wrote this.

Two years ago I would have dismisssed basic income as a nice but whacky idea. Here's how I changed my mind

https://www.thersa.org/discover/publications-and-articles/rsa-blogs/2015/12/in-support-of-a-universal-basic-income--introducing-the-rsa-basic-income-model/

There are increasing signs that support for a Universal Basic Income is growing across the developed world. But what is it exactly and how would it work in the UK?

I guess no one would have to work any more, who would pay the taxes if that happened..

Well at this time of day perhaps Dodgy Dave and Emperor Osborne could answer that .Or a few of their chums.

Heard it is 7 billion or thereabouts that is diverted or saved Tax per year in the Tax Havens.

Suppose it breaks down roughly to this.

Work and you receive it on top of your wages.

Do not work and you receive it,but will struggle. It is not a life changing amount.

There maybe some who will never want to achieve or try to.The way of the world.

Hopefully it creates the desire to work harder whether self employed or employed.

And gives people options, perhaps for the first time in their lives.

And of course creates a modern system fit for the future. And the welfare state will be ripped to pieces. And create fairness.

Of course that is my view from what i am reading when time allows from around the world from the past to the possibilities in the future.

The article a couple of posts back explains roughly who will pay more taxes possibly.

But it seems to be the really wealthy.Which if true,i do make plenty of mistakes when tiring will please them no end.

But i need to check this carefully tomorrow.Or when i have a little more time.

So easy to say something that is completely wrong.

I am learning as i go,myself.

But savings on Welfare balances much of the payments.

If anyone can explain or who has knowledge of tax and how things would change, please feel free to have your say after reading the article.

A lot to take in.

Many articles out there to read and more every day.The idea is building.

Humanity Needs Universal Basic Income in Order to Stop Impeding Progress

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/scott-santens/humanity-needs-universal-_b_9599198.html

What If We Just Gave Poor People a Basic Income for Life? That’s What We’re About to Test.

Over the last decade, interest has grown in an ostensibly unorthodox approach for helping people who don’t have much money: just give them more of it, no strings attached.

In the old days of policymaking by aphorism—give a man a fish, feed him for a day!—simply handing money to the poor was considered an obviously bad idea. How naïve—you can’t just give people money. They’ll stop trying! They’ll just get drunk! The underlying assumption was that the poor weren’t good at making decisions for themselves: Experts had to make the decisions for them.

As it turns out, that assumption was wrong. Continues on the article

Well ,i like to look at many articles about Basic Income.

Here is one that i found fascinating, and a little different.

"What do we do about drug users with basic incomes?"

The question of UBI and addictive behavior

Scott Santens

Changing an impoverished environment to an enriched one, results in drug rewarding levers no longer being pressed. This is really important to understand.

Now knowing that most poor drug users aren't poor because they use drugs, and instead that most poor drug users use drugs because they are poor, we can better see what kind of potential effect a basic income would have on drug use.

A Few articles on Basic Income.

On June 5th Switzerland will become the first country in the world to vote at national level on the introduction of an unconditional basic income (UBI).

What this could mean for the Swiss.

Do i think personally the Swiss will vote for it this time round.I doubt it but hope they will.

Owen Jones wrote a while ago.

We should be striving to work less, not toiling until we drop

Progress wasn’t supposed to mean chasing an ever-receding prospect of retirement. It’s time to challenge this bleak vision

And i believe it is time to challenge this bleak vision.

So many flogging themselves and to tired to do anything when work finishes.

And the age of retirement rising.Decided by the powers that be.

It clearly is time to take a fresh look at things.

When researchers Frey and Osborne predicted in 2013 that 47% of US jobs were susceptible to automation by 2050, they set off a wave of dystopian concern. But the key word is “susceptible”.

The automation revolution is possible, but without a radical change in the social conventions surrounding work it will not happen. The real dystopia is that, fearing the mass unemployment and psychological aimlessness it might bring, we stall the third industrial revolution. Instead we end up creating millions of low skilled jobs that do not need to exist.

A link with video.

To benefit from the automation revolution we need a universal basic income, the slashing of working hours and a redefinition of ourselves without work.A interesting article with many links leading off.

Petition: Prominently debate BASIC INCOME Early Day Motion 974 (Session: 2015-16).

Caroline Lucas created BASIC INCOME EDM 974. Jonathan Reynolds similarly supports basic income. John McDonnell said Labour are considering basic income. Basic income trials are set to take place in Canada, Finland, and Holland. The time is ripe for UK Parliament to debate EDM 974 BASIC INCOME.

That this House notes the growing crisis of low pay and precarity in a labour market increasingly characterised by casualised forms of employment that offer little in the way of pay, predictable hours or long-term security; further notes the evident inability of our bureaucratically costly social security system, with its dependence on means-testing and often arbitrary sanctions, to provide an adequate income floor; believes that a Basic Income, an unconditional, non-withdrawable income paid to everyone, has the potential to offer genuine social security to all while boosting entrepreneurialism and the creation of small businesses;

Well this idea of Basic Income for all.As i like the idea so i suppose i focus on articles that fit in with my way of thinking.

.But more articles are arriving each day that you must wonder how long before some of these ideas become reality.

As we see minimum wage rise,do you think manufacturers, employers are not looking at ways to cut costs.

The bottom mark profit is king. Not people.

I can put perhaps to many articles on at one time so going to drop them to only a few at a time, ones that made me say oh dear things are already happening and not many people are aware of this in Great Britain.

So just a few articles today.

Think of China where cost of labour,, is low.Even there changes are happening fast.As they do.You have to worry if a country where costs are low are beginning to make big changes. You have to.

Prepare,Plan and Survive is my new saying.

What would happen here if this happened. One morning you were told sorry thanks ,but robots are having your job away.

Here is a few pounds, have a good life.

How about this then.

Foxconn axes 60,000 jobs in one Chinese factory as robots take over.

One of China’s high-tech manufacturing hubs is accelerating uptake of robots as labor costs rise.

As many as 600 major companies in Kunshan have similar plans
, according to a government survey.

https://www.techinasia.com/foxconn-robots-china-job-losses

Or this.

Reboot: Adidas to make shoes in Germany again – but using robots

Company unveils new factory in Germany that will use machines to make shoes instead of humans in Asia.

Good grief, think of the implications as this spreads, half or more of Asia's workforce could be out of a job.

Because robots do not need a raise they can work anywhere in the world at the bottom line.

So many companies will try to move production surely back to Europe,USA wherever. But do not get excited robots will be their employees.Or maybe not they will move production to wherever land is the cheapest. So long as they can get to rail, sea or road what does it matter.

Better put the link on.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/may/25/adidas-to-sell-robot-made-shoes-from-2017

Scott Santens wrote this back in February.A very good read.He is based in America.Saves me going on to much.

Robots will take your job

http://www.bostonglobe.com/ideas/2016/02/24/robots-will-take-your-job/5lXtKomQ7uQBEzTJOXT7YO/story.html

Finally to the UK,Last but one link for now.

Two thirds of the British public support a universal basic income, poll finds

The policy also has significant support across the European Union

A strong majority of the British public in principle support the introduction of a so-called Universal Basic Income, a new poll suggests.

An opinion study asked respondents what they thought of “an income unconditionally paid by the government to every individual regardless of whether they work and irrespective of any other sources of income”.

Having it explained that the income “replaces other social security payments and is high enough to cover all basic needs”, 62 per cent of the UK population said it would support such a policy.

Even in America they know automation is going to cost a massive amount of the workforce their jobs.

Who says so,well the President and his advisers know.Somewhere in this report.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/docs/ERP_2016_Book_Complete%20JA.pdf

But really i think shortly it will become obvious to all of us.

Perhaps time to sign the petition.Up to you though.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/128234

Last thing today, from myself that is,think of drivers,Taxi,Bus,Lorry drivers, this next article says a few things to me.

Can you imagine how many towns, cities, businesses rely on Drivers for their income across the world.Worth thinking about.

Chinese city Wuhu embraces driverless vehicles

Baidu announced in April that it will choose 10 cities across the country to try out driverless cars this year

. The company aims to commercialize the driverless technology in three years and to achieve mass production of the cars in five years.

Now the other day i was writing about a chap i saw about 80 selling strawberries,a simple operation on a car boot, one pound each.

About 1 dollar 50 cents.

Turned out he was a major player in the business.

He told me how the pickers were hard at work picking for major supermarkets around the country. On a Sunday.

Also that he was thinking of spending tens of thousands on modernising the picking operation.

Think of your own jobs, what if,which it will your job is automated.Just a small post today.

Now i have seen a even faster one than this.Gives you the idea though.

And i realise now there are machines now picking all over the countries of the world. How many jobs have or will be lost.?

Prepare,Plan and survive, sign the petition lets get talking about Basic Income as soon as.

Just in case Scott Santens is reading this,i tried to put your link on but struggled, not tech minded enough.

But i will put your words down.

Give us fruit, we eat for a day.

Teach us to pick fruit, we eat for life.

Build HarvestBot, do we all eat or starve?
