hello

im wondering if anyone can help me .

Firstly I suffer with mental health problems-

I had a breakdown in 2008 before which I went bankrupt and was discharged.

I was off 18 months but got myself back working as I just wanted a normal life.

ive had recurrent depression all of my life but I got a job after my breakdown ,

I got a store card with jd Williams as id put on lots of weight on my medication and the limit increased as I was paying,

but I was on a low income , t

hen vanquis offered me a card and increased my limit

I left my job because of ill health and got another job,

before this I loaned from quick quid at xmas

I think this was 2011 then I got progressively into further debt with payday loans

and where ive kept wanting to work got another job

- I went on a plan with Harrington brooks but they took 3 payments of 175 just to get plan started.

then I was ill in my new job and didn't get paid so

stupidly took a loan with cheque centre and did loads of overtime

then I got ill aain and kept having to reloan with cheque centre.

then I thought it must be wrong job so started teacher training and

because I tried to push myself and the nature of what is my illness

I had to leave then I applied for part time job but had to leave after a week it was too much

im on esa now and started with Kensington but ive made two and half payments and cant afford it

- ive been looking at dros on here

so contacted stepchange and have recommended dro but I wont here from specialist team til Monday.

I cant budget and because I was working thought I could pay but im now under the mental health team

and they are assessing me for borderline disorder in a couple of months.

im worried re dro

im worried itl be revoked not approved that il be seen as reckless whether a creditor will appeal against it I owe 6k .

I will never take out lending again,

learn budgeting etc.

I never knew about paydayloans and not good at considering interest etc

im understanding my condition will persist and when I thought I was ok I wasn't

I catastrophise and am very low and anxious I feel ashamed and stupid

any advice would be great

thankyou

Do not feel ashamed or stupid. Things happen and all we can do is look forward and not back.

Discuss this with stepchange but dont be pushed into anything. National debtline are very good as well.

It is not as if you took all the debt in the last 3 months now is it.

Are you waiting to see someone from the mental health team or do you already have a contact. I am afraid for what are considered mild problems (not by you I hasten to add) it is a bit of a lottery depending on your area and GP.

You've come to the right place there will be someone along soon to give you a hand and stop panicing..

My advice is follow what they are telling you to do, surprisingly when peeps are stressed they run round following their own agenda and it does them more harm than good.

Oh and ask as many questions if you don't understand silly or not, no-one minds.

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Hi and welcome to CAG.

I have moved your thread to the debts forums.

All the debts you have listed are low priority debts. If you are going for a DRO, then try to stop worrying as nothing will happen to you until you speak to them and realistically, nothing can happen to you should they not be able to help you.

What debts do you owe? List them all out and roughly what you owe on them.

hi thankyou

yeah I see dro as my only option now yea all the loans are under 450 were smaller but interest etc its all a blur cant get money back as they charge fees for set ups my Harrington brooks failed then buried my head for a month then general debt recoveries called and said they would look into getting at least interest knocked off they work with Kensington, they were really nice but its not really affordable really worried re cheque centre especially god ive got myself in a state.

VD.... As mentioned your health is important and these companies dont care about any emotions etc, they only want their cut!

A DRO for this? Id say not. DRO are serious plans and like IVAs should only be consider a last resort.

We can help you take control here, but like mentioned, get your health sorted as best as you can :)

We could do with some help from you.

gather your info

list it out

them comeback here when YOU ar ready

i'd not be worrying about ANY of the debts at present.

none of them are a priority

we don't do debtors prison anymore now

no one can harm you at all if you simply IGNORE THEM

for a few more weeks till you get stable.

don't go thinking you have to ring this person

or

speak to that person.

put the phone DOWN

telling

them EVERYTHING IN WRITING PLEASE.

then when you have the various LETTERS OF PROOF.

we can see them.

Hi again.

As I see it the way you deal with your debts is what is best for you and no one else. If you feel strong enough to go it alone that is great, if not there are lots of charities out there that can offer support. Mind I believe can offer support as can christians against poverty (don't be put off if you don't consider yourself a christian). If you are not working I doubt stepchange will offer a dmp , the easy option for them might be to suggest a dro.

If you are fully aware of the downside to a dro and feel it is the best option for you I am sure everyone will support you. If you want to repay reasonable amounts people will help as well.

There is no perfect solution that works for everyone. Some people love the challenge , others find it too much. No shame in that

One idea is that if you can get a letter from some mental health professional to say you are unwell and will be so for some time you could send any creditors a copy with a covering letter. I am sure someone on here would write one for you quoting oft guidelines and all that. It would at least give you breathing space.

Excess Anxiety is irrational by its nature.

thankyou annie , I will try to tell my mental health nurse on Monday when I should hear from stepchange again I would just like to say all of the help on here is so great and I really do appreciate it

Happy New Year lol..... This year is going to be great, look at the end result and just let us help you....

If you are still going for a DRO make sure you include ALL DEBTS in this as the idea is to be debt free in a year...

Have you got anything that can be reclaimed for you to bring down the outstanding balance, you may not owe as much as you think.

Can you list the priority debts? THESE ARE THE ONES THAT CAN GET YOU INTO SERIOUS TROUBLE.?

If they are catalogue/credit card / PDL's /doorstep loans, these are all NON PRIORITY, these can wait till the important ones are listed for us to help you.

Don't let this make you more ill than you already are, with help here you will be on cloud nine in no time at all, been there done that got the t-shirt so to speak.

So I too am much happier than I was a few years ago with help from the CAGGERS here.

imho TAKE A DEEP BREATHE POOR IT ALL OUT ON HERE lets us give all we can to make you able to face these people ok?

MM

Don't forget to STAY OFF OF THE PHONE FROM NOW ON OK.

If I have been of any help, please click on my star and leave a note to let me know, thank you.

As a fellow sufferer of Agoraphobia and severe Anxiety I can sympathize with your position.

Luckily, my GP is very supportive and we've found the right combination of medication and support which has really helped me for the past few years.

First and foremost, is to take a deep breath, and stop panicking or worrying over "Unsecured Debt".

Do not feel ashamed or stupid either, life is life and unfortunately things do go wrong for people. Feeling stressed about a few companies pursuing you for money is nothing to get yourself in a panic over (I speak from previous experience).

From your post, it seems you have some debt with JDWilliams, Vanquis and QuickQuid. All of which are unsecured lenders, in other words, until you have a county court judgment against you that is registered and unpaid, there remains absolutely nothing they can do in regards to your property.

Debt Collection Agencies rely on the factor of fear to make people pay up, I've never ever paid a Debt Collector in my life and never will. When I fell behind on payments I made reasonable offers to the original creditors in which I stuck to. Unless a Debt Collector actually purchases the debt and you receive valid notice under s.196 of the Law of Property Act 1925 that they have bought the rights, then I would ignore their empty threats.

Generally, a company like Vanquis and JDWilliams will apply many charges in light of "missed payments" which they will call an "Administration Fee", these of course, are unenforceable, and I can guarantee that you will have many fees and charges. Ask for a breakdown of all your accounts, this will give you an understanding of what you actually owe.

If you can, perhaps make an offer of a monthly payment that you can afford and maintain. This could be as small as £1.00 per creditor per month, you're in charge, not them.

Hope this helps somewhat.
