Some of those proposals, such as compulsory high-vis clothing, banning cyclists from passing traffic on the left and enforcing road laws for cyclists are pretty sensible ideas I could get behind.

The ideas of "Make drivers cycle on a dual carriageway", banning cars from small roads and especially Mandatory prosecutions for motorists regardless of fault are just ridiculous though.

Some interesting comments, some sensible... some not so sensible.

I fully agree with the one about the police tend to ignore cyclists committing obvious offences. It's clear that there are some cyclists who are reckless (just like there are drivers). But the reckless driver is more likely to get stopped and adequately punished than a cyclist is. This kind of proves the point;

The cyclist was not punished and you have to ask yourself "why not"?

In instances like this, where a cyclist would continue to break the law if allowed to carry on, the bike should be seized just as a car is and the rider prosecuted just as a driver is. No if's or buts. And if the rider happens to be a child, then prosecute the parents. There are far too many kids riding around at night without lights these days.

Further to my previous post, this has happened;

Makes you wonder what the sentence would of been had the cyclist been driving a car. The law applying to cycling needs to be bought up to date. Here is the perfect example why.
