I have got into a dispute with my former employer and we're trying to resolve it through negotiations. I would like an independent expert, who's familiar with that sort of dispute resolution, to represent me. At the same time, I would also like my trade union to provide their inputs during negotiations, possibly representing me at times. Is this doable? Can more than one person represent you?

You will probably find the union decline to represent you if you involve a 3rd party as they are no longer required; certainly if you have a lawyer they will not.

What sort of "independent expert?"

Never assume anyone on the internet is who they say they are. Only rely on advice from insured professionals you have paid for!

Then make it advisory role, not representation. It's hard to be clear on what exactly they can offer if you won't tell us what their field or area of expertise is, so I am not sure if this is the right thing to do, but ask the union how they would feel about taking free advice offered and get it in writing they are happy to do this and still represent you.

If they say no then you have to choose.
