I have had around £60 worth of bank charges on my account in the last 13 months since I opened the account, they are all £10 charges for Direct Debits, can I claim them back as I am on Jobseeker's Allowance?

Just out of interest who is the bank ?

In the first instance you should send a preliminary letter asking for the charges back informing them that they have a duty to treat you sympathetically because of your hardship.

The BCOBS offers scope but should only be used if they have failed to deal or listen to you.

It is certainly something you can quote.

Ok thanks.

So it need not be anything too long winded.

If you know the dates they have taken these payments, list them.

There are 2 possible ways they will respond.

They will either offer to refund one or two,or else they will give the usual waffle about terms and conditions but say they will look into it and have 8 weeks.

We do know that the FOS have taken on complaints and upheld in favour of customers who have contacted them citing hardship.

But of course this takes some time and the banks know this.

Yes I have also seen them stump up quickly with a BCOBS threat.

A little tip-in the heading of your letter state "This is not a PPI related enquiry"

The reason for this is that it seems they have taken on lots of staff to deal with complaints who are not reading letters through,or have no idea what BCOBS is so are putting it in PPI piles.
