Hi all. I am new here so please forgive me if I do this incorrectly.

I am currently unemployed (sort of)

2 weeks ago I got a call from a company (not an agency) who located my CV on a jobsite I had registered with. The company were interested in me as I have been a trainer (contact centre work) for the last couple of years and was made redundant at the end of last year. They invited me in for an interview, requesting a presentation delivery within my interview.

I informed of my history and that I was currently undertaking my level 3 training award which I began in December last year.

All went well and the interview lasted about an hour, including my presentation.

The following Monday I got a call offering me the position which I accepted. Confirmation details of salary and working hours were emailed to me and I had to fill in all required forms. I also went into the office again to show my proof of ID, NI number and so forth and fill in more forms (CRB)

They welcomed me aboard and asked me to start on the 24/2/2012. I happily agreed.

Now the company wants me to be sent on a Specialised"Train the Trainer" training course. This course states that you need to have your level 3 certificate in order to do the training course.

As stated previously, I have not completed the (level 3)course and told my prospective empoyers this a number of times.

Now to do the job they have hired me for, they tell me I am required to do this course??!!

They have told me this today....

I cannot complete the course by Friday.

I have also now sold my car and purchased a motorcycle in order to commute!

Where do I stand?:???:

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

When you initially applied for that job, do you remember how the job offer was formulated?

Was it offered under one, or more conditions? (ref. those two courses you are writing about)

Hi.

The job was offered to me as a trainer for a company. There was a written job description which included:

Basic Qualifications:

Education:

Professional qualification in Workplace Training.

Experience:

A minimum 3 years’ experience as a trainer and assessor, preferably in a security or customer service environment.

Languages:

Excellence in English (verbal and written communication).

PC Aptitude:

Computer experience and comfort in core Microsoft Office packages: Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

I did not apply for this job.

As I said, the company approached me directly knowing I had 2.5 yrs experience and was not yet fully qualified with my level 3. This was also confirmed at my interview.

They follwed this up by emailing this.

Hi Gary,

Following your interview with ( company), I am pleased to offer you the role of Trainer on a contractual basis. Please find attached your offer of invitation to join (company). Please review and let me know if you have any questions. As stated, this is a conditional employment based on passing our Client's background check.

If you happy to accept please could confirm via email and provide the contact details of 2 references (please find attached).

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.

Kind regards,

Then the next email after I confirmed I would accept the role:

Hi Gary,

Congratulations on obtaining your role at (Company).

As part of your terms, you are required to pass the screening process of our client, (company). Therefore please can you complete the attached forms and bring them to our office along with the following accompanying documents:

  • A valid Passport (valid until 08 November 2012)
  • Visa details if applicable
  • Official proof of National Insurance Number (P45, P60, Inland Revenue/Job Centre correspondence or NI card/official letter)
  • Proof of address - Utility bill dated in the last 2 months or UK driving licence (both parts)
  • Bank Details
  • P45

Please can you bring the abovementioned documents to our office on Thursday 16th of February at 10:00 so that we can arrange for the screening process to commence at our earliest convenience. Please could you confirm your attendance via e-mail.

I did all this and they approached me concerning my Level 3 qualification which I confirmed I had not yet completed. They again assured me that this was fine as long I was currently enrolled on a course.

Hope that is enough info?

PS this company is contracted to employ the trainers for another company.

There was also no mention that I had to do this other course at the interview.

I do not see any problem in your post as you seem to have fulfilled the conditions put to you prior to them offering you the job...

That should not happen...

Don't worry... had your employer wanted to emphasise the fact that they would only employ someone who had gone through that training, they would have both stated so in their offer and in their interview...

Hopefully it's a mere oversight on the company's part! If youve signed a contract then the company dismissed you then you'd be entitled to your contractual notice period, but that's it because you'd need a years service to claim unfair dismissal.
