Hi wonder if anyone can help. My son who is 19 said he went into a local tesco express today and took a sandwich but paid for the crisps. He left the store and an employee followed him but did not talk or stop him. He got into his car and saw the tesco employee make a note of the registration.

He is now worried what will happen. From a mothers point of view i am very dissapointed he has done this but also glad he has owed up and told me. What is the best thing to do? Will tesco call the police, will they come here? Shall i send him back to the store to own up?

Any advice appreciated. The sandwich was worth £2 if that makes any difference.

The chances are that Tesco called the Police who declined the opportunity to investigate, for the sake of a sandwich and a slim chance of convicting.

What they might have done though is remind the Tesco manager that a shopkeeper is entitled to refuse to allow an unwelcome individual to use the shop.
