A friend of mine has a BT package which includes BT vision, they have had nothing but problems only being able to access 3 channels.

While BT have refused to send an engineer out they claim the problem is with the aerial, eventhough my friend has stated when they connect aerial direct to TV they can see all the standard terestial channels ok.

Needless to say they have no given up, would they be within their rights to terminate the BT Vision as they have a package that includes, Telephony and Broadband, or what is the best recommended action.

Nope. The T&Cs are clear that BT take no responsibility for the reception of Freeview channels. Their box (and the fee charged) is for the TV channels they actually provide over the BB connection. You don't say what these '3 channels' are, Freeview ones? If so, you may need to to re-scan manually the local area transmissions, which will bring them all back.

Also,it does not record correctly, so does this mean BT have no duty of care to ensure the box is working correctly and how can they say the problem is not with the box when they have an engineer round. When the Aerial lead is pugged direct into the TV the picture is fine and all terrestial channels are recieved ok. They also have re-scanned loads of times

There is no 'duty of care' for what you describe.

If the box does not do what it is supposed to do, you have SOGA and/or DSR to fall back on. A rescan usually fixed everything, and a restart (power off - 10 secound wait - power on) to reset the DVR in case to clear the cache and start again.

A friend of mine has BT Vision and is signed up for a 24 month contract with 12 months left. They are now moving to an area where aerial reception is hopeless therefore BT Vision will not work, what are their options to cancel?

from the home mover team bit of their website

When you call us with your new address, we can check the Freeview reception in your new home. If you can't get Freeview then you'll still be able to cancel any Sky Sports 1 and/or Sky Sports 2 and BT Vision service without incurring cancellation fees.

However, if you wish you can still retain your BT Vision Service and watch thousands of on demand BT Vision shows.

Please contact a member of the site team if you are offered help off the forum for a a paid or no win no fee service.
