Hi all, I have been a member for a while but am thinking about SAR-ing CAP1 about my credit card charges. I have had the card for a few years and have been hit with a few charges during this time.

I am not to sure if these charges are allowed or not as they are only for small amounts (£12 each time)

During the 3 years I have had this card I have had a few over limit and late payment charges. probably around 20. The late payments have usually been 1 or 2 days late and I have been charged £12 each time. I have also been charged a load of times for being over limit (very easy to do on a £100 limit credit card). And some months I have had both charges on a statement (£12 for late payment, £12 for over limit and then the interest)

Also one thing that sticks in my mind a lot is their cash advance fee,.... During cheltemham I did a few bets for fun (Im not a big gambler, but would put the odd £1 or 2 on a big event like cheltenham or the grand national) I placed about 10-12 bets for a couple of £ each time during the 4 day festival and when my credit card bill came in they had charged me a cash advance fee of £3 for EVERY single bet. I did the bets on betfred.com and you can use your card as you bet, i.e you dont need to load £10 into your online funds etc, if you want to bet £0.50 on something you can and it just gets charged to your registered card. This infurated me as I had only spent about £20 all week and then I got charged a further £24 in cash advance fee`s.

So to sum it up is it worth Sar-ing them? my charges are small compaired to most people on here but they are (in my eyes) unreasonable, what do you`s think??

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,

I'm not too sure about the cash advance fee's, but you can claim back all the £12 charges.

Hi, you can certainly claim back the late payment/overlimit charges.

Ref - Cash advance fees - these are an absolute disgrace. I too place the odd online bet. About a month ago I decided to use my cap one card on the Coral website to deposit £20. When my statement came I also got charged £3 for the pleasure. I found in the small print on Coral website that some credit card companies treat gambling websites the same as cash machines i.e. charge for each transaction!

Luckily for me I only did it once but feel for you gettin stung like that. I wud write a separate letter to them on this & complain if I was you.
