I don't believe DVLA record calls (there's no obligation on them to record them in the first place). Also, the the journo confirm the DVLA provided the information? There are often other ways to receive similar information that don;t stream directly from them. Assuming there is a breach proved, it isn't something you can pursue -this is only an issue for the ICO, so chase them anyway, as that won't cost you anything.

The journo is a freind and colleague who called them on my behalf, but DVLA neglected to get permission from me first. Luckily it was a freind and not joe bloggs. The manager actually told me she had spoken to my freind and advised me that he was going to call me!!!

If they had been reasonable about the whole thing I might have been prepared to overlook the breach of DPA but seeing as they were hell bent on getting me anywhich way then they're going ot have to deal with it.

That's good news and well done.

I think it's more a reflection of you percevering until the DVLA had the full facts than anything else. Things go wrong for all of us, some we are acountable for, but regardless, a little sympathetic treatment shouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility.

Edit: Oops I guess I replied to page one and missed the later fallout :(
