Sorry, but i couldn't find any information on this, but i apologise if it's covered somewhere else.

I closed my bank account with NatWest possibly a year ago. Since finding out about possibly claiming back bank charges, I think i've probably been fined a few hundred in the past 6 years.

Is it possible to claim back these charges even on a closed account? Wishful thinking i'm sure -but thuoght there's no harm in asking.

Cheers,

T

Tobal indeed you can-the process is exactly the same and they are obliged to comply with a subject access request if you send one to get copies of your statements and anything else requested.

I'm not sure I have the details like account number, is that for me to find?

What's the next step? Should i just walk into the branch i opened the account at and ask for last 6 years worth of statements?

Thanks for your quick repsonse!

No you need to send a SAR.

If you dont know the account number - give the sort code for the branch that it was held at-and give approx dates that the account was running.

I would also include a copy of ID.

These things are not absolutely nec-but under the Data Protection Act a controller can withold a request for info if they are not satisfied that it is the subject requesting it-it makes it less likely for them to say this or ask for further proof if you do it from the start.

There is a template letter in the CAG library on front page-and the contact details of where to send are in the stickied threads at the top of the forum menu here.

Dont forget to send the £10.00 fee.
