i had a 'out of court' settlement with hsbc in 2006 with an agreement to refund my bank charges which they did and to remove default entry on my credit file.I recently got a copy of my credit file and to my surprise the default entry was never removed from my file.

I still have the original letter from Dg solicitors

Hi Jfa ,:)

Write to DG , enclose a copy of the letter and tell them they have 14 days to remove it before you report them to the ombudsman ....... and to confirm to you in writing when it's done ....

Keep copies of all the correspondence (incidentally send the letters to DG by 'recorded Delivery ' so you can check receipt ) and if they don't comply with your request ... come back and we'll discuss the ombudsman option...

It might not be me but someone will answer .... :)

  • 1 year later...

Hi, did sent the letter to DG solicitors as advised sometimes last year. The solicitors did write back to me that the default will be removed from credit file. Just got a copy of my credit report and the said default was never removed. Can i issue a claim against them for damages?

Hi jfadeyi1,

If you've got the letter which says that they will remove the default ,, then beat them over the head with it ! Write, enclosing a copy of course, and tell them they've got 14 days to remove it .. or it's court ...

Also , if you think that by failing to remove the default they have lost you something ... i.e Mortgage , grant or bank loan or anything ... tell them that too .. and ask them to send you their compensation claim procedure ...

It may be a long road, but the first thing is to get them to remove the default as promised .. then come back and ask again .... someone will answer , who may be more up on the Compensation angle than I am . ....:)
