Sorry rooster, I forgot to include CAG on the image.

Can I post it if it contains both the address of CAG and the one beginning with "P"?

Don't be a mug this year - you don't have to pay private parking tickets!

Please don't post it, Jan.

I have just unapproved it on another thread, as it contains unauthorised web-addresses.

I won't, I noticed the link had gone. It seems like a good advertising campaign though - would be a shame if Pepiwotsit got all the publicity.

Sorry!

In addition, that picture gives the impression that all parking charges can be dealt with in the same way, which is certainly NOT the situation.

It depends on the source of the ticket and the regulations under which it was issued.

Even with individual cases from the same source, there can be complications which requires experience to resolve.

Regards, Rooster.

Rooster, I'm afraid I disagree with you.

The ad makes it very clear that you should "check if your ticket is from the council or police", and states "You don't have to pay private parking tickets" - which would appear to be in keeping with the advice offered on this forum?

'Private companies have no power to fine you' is clearly false and misleading 90% of Council issued PCNs are issued by private companies, if a private company is employed by a local council they can fine you as much as they like your 'advert' does not make this clear.

That's why it also says "Check your fine is from the council".

Even council PCNs issued by private contractors will bear the name of the council.

What would be a better way to word it?

I was talking about the picture with the big £ on it which makes no mention of Councils. The two forums you mention already provide good advice so cannot see any point in dumbing down the issue on facebook. You state that you should ignore ALL letters regarding the tickets even those from debt collectors. To the less informed this could result in a small claims judgement by default if they ignore papers regarding any court hearing.

The point is that the people who frequent parking forums are a close-knit bunch.

Also, joining a forum requires some extra effort which many people who are panicking and searching the internet may not be prepared to do.

The idea of using Facebook is two-fold.

Firstly, there is the sheer number of people who log on to the service every day.

Secondly, it has been intentionally "dumbed down" to make the message very clear. It is not a case of "ignore everything including court papers", but "this is not an official ticket, and you can make a choice whether or not to pay". If that means just another 10% of people don't just pay up in the belief they have an official parking ticket, then that is already a good result.

I certainly take on board your point about not mentioning court papers on the Facebook advice page, and will update it post-haste to make that clear.

It could work very well, but it needs revising a little bit to make sure the information is accurate. Maybe even encouraging people to look into the issue themselves? There is plenty of information and learning to be done, and if they want to save that £60, then I'm sure they can spend a few hours having a read through some forums to get a better picture of what's actually going on.

First they must help themselves, only then can they be helped.

My concerns where first raised when the 3rd party ads stated using my details its a bit worrying to see an ad stating....

Hi Steve theres plenty of single girls looking for a 41 year old single guy in Surbiton so sign up to meetagirlie.com now

(details changed I'm not THAT stupid)

The site is a data miners heaven with some people putting their whole life online. The fact that the ads can obtain my personal details also means my work place, school, email accounts, mobile numbers, clubs etc are all taken and used for whatever purpose the companies 'stealing' them seem fit. My advice if you must use it is to use the minimum info to register and make as much as possible false. Once you sign up you CANNOT cancel your account only suspend it the details remain on the server....be warned!

I agree with your sentiments which is why I requested for my Facebook account to be deleted. I cannot log in now using my user name and password. I prefer real flesh & blood friends that I can speak to personally or by phone and not so called imaginery friends.

They're not really imaginary friends though, aslong as you know that they actually exist in real life when they log off. I speak to my close friends on there, and keep in touch with ones I no longer see in person due to whatever reason, be it them moving away, or losing touch after leaving school, etc. I don't, however, play any of the silly games or use any of the applications. I use it to speak to friends, or arrange nights out, and use it as an online photo album of all the good times I've had with my friends.

I am disgusted that our details are being sold off to 3rd parties though. What would thay actually DO with the info? Not like knowing my favourite films are going to help their business reach new levels of fortune?!
