Hi all

I am in desperate need of some helpful advice and tips on a my gym membership.

I joined holmes place 3 months ago whilst being a student and 2 months down the line my financial stituation was very bad and i had to cancel my debit payment with the bank.

Holmes has since been in touch and demanding £66 for the past 2months and then they will freeze the membership for 3months?

Unfortunatly things are so bad that i cnt afford £66? if i dont pay by the 20/08 they will pass it to a credit collectiona gaency...

I just wannted to know what my rights are and if they do pass it to the collection agency will it only be for the £66 or the full years membership?

I am student with £31k debt already and as im pursuing alegal career i cnt be adudicated bankrupt??

any help would be greatly appreciated??

thank you

The first thing you should do is contact the Gym and explain the situation.

Put forward a payment plan that you can afford.

Without seeing the terms of the agreement then its difficult to give you specific advice.

Dcas are usually only called in as a last resort.

You should put in writing your proposals to the gym and deal with someone high up not an assistant.

Maybe zooman can advise further on this if hes around.

Unfortunately, you are likely to run foul of a very nasty trick that gyms play. I belong to Holmes Place and the initial sign up is for a year. They way they structure this is that you take out a loan with a finance company that then lends the money to HP. As far I'm concerned this is so that you can't simply cancel the gym membership.

You need to follow Martin's advice but unfortunately, I think it's quite likely that you will end up paying most if not all of the annual subscription.
