Hi all,

On Thursday night there i was surprised to get bac kt omy car to see a parking ticket for parking in a bus lane. I had parked in the city centre where there is a very long bus lane. There were a few cars and there was a gap so i parked in there not thinking i had parked in the bus lane. I was away for about 5 minutes and by this point the tw ocars infront had left and i seen the PCN and realised the front quarter of my car was in the bus lane !.

To be perfectly honest it was around 9pm and i thought the parking attendants finish at 7pm or so, forgetting that its Late night shopping on Thursday in Glasgow. To be honest i've parked there before and on a few occasions even very slightly further up the bus lane because it is so long in evenings for 5 mins or so.

I'm just annoyed because i was only there for 5 mins, it was a mistake and about a quarter of the car was in the lane. Do you think there is any chance of appealing since i doubt they took a photo?

Your only recourse might be if the ticket was incorrectly issued, but in all honesty, just because you have done it before and just because it was only for 5 minutes, doesn't make it ok. Perhaps in future you should not park in a bus lane, I hear that this is a ticketable offence. :-)

Further to the above, if the bus stop/lane was a marked/signed

(X) No Stopping area, if the police had seen the vehicle, you could

have been issued with an endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice, or reported

to the Court for the Offence.

I have a very good friend who is a bus driver, and he tells me

regularly that people who infringe bus lanes for just a "couple

of minutes" because they don't know better, regularly get him

into trouble for running outside of schedule, despite the CCTV

in his vehicle.

Also, Civil Enforcement Officers don't stop working at a set time,

in Manchester they are on shift 24/7/365.
