I am awaiting a routine operation and have now had three appointments all cancelled for "emergencies". The first was cancelled the day before I was due to be admitted. The second was cancelled after I had been at the hospital for about 5 hours. I then had to stay overnight in a "Lodge" to return home the next morning. The hospital is some 1 hour and 45 minutes away. I also need an ambulance as I cannot travel by car for more that a couple of miles. The third cancellation was the worst. I had been at the hospital overnight, had sat waiting for a bed for 6 hours with no food or water (Nil by mouth since 6am) Was prepared for surgery, looking most fetching in my flowery gown. Told I would be taken to the operating theatre in about 30 minutes. Then10 minutes later was told to get dressed, my operation was cancelled again. I then had to wait another two hours for transport , then another two hour journey to get home. I am 71 years of age and always manage to keep my cool even in these circumstances but the shock came out two days later and I am now trying to recover before the next appointment. I really feel as if I have been caste aside due to my age. I have paid in to the NHS pot since 1953 and never missed a stamp but that doesn't seem to count nowadays. Anyone else had a similar experience?

I am soon to become a "Grumpy Old Man" a thing I have always vowed never to do!

You do seem to have more than your share of bad luck, emergencies do occur, my uncles was cancelled as one of the surgeons was taken ill.

I hope you are able to proceed with your surgery soon.

Andy
