Hi there,

So it seems another one of my deposits wasn't protected. My previous tenancy ended on January 16th. The checkout went fine and there was no dispute about the amount to return (100% of it would be returned). But then nothing happened...I must have called about 10 times to the landlords, but in the end it took them 67 days to fully return the deposit. The deposit was for £1866, so not an insignificant amount. As other tenants will know we kind of rely on getting a previous deposit back to cover the next one, so having to wait 67 days was an extreme pain.

The other day I learnt there was such a thing as the DPS, so first I checked my current deposit, which wasn't protected, but they have since protected it so I guess that's fine (I posted another thread about this). It turns out the previous deposit for £1866 wasn't protected either. Had I known about the DPS at the time I could have gotten onto the particular scheme to make them return the deposit a lot quicker I assume? Apparently it's suppose to be no more than 10 days!

Would they be liable under the DPS legislation given that the tenancy is over?

I'd really appreciate any info :-)

Regards

If you want to check if your deposit is protected, you just call the three schemes and ask. They will want to know your name, the address, the LL and maybe the Agent.
